~This will be a long chapter but I hope you enjoy it!~
William sat in the living room. He had his computer and all of the gadgets everyone would need laid out. He heard a door open and looked up to see Joseph coming out of their bedroom. He came and sat down by William, a loud yawn escaping him. "You didn't wake me up." "Sorry, I went into autopilot and started setting everything up." Joseph just smiled and put his arm around William's shoulder, kissing him on the cheek. Another door opened and Larissa walked out. She was dressed in an all-black suit, a black newsboy cap adorning her head. She wore black half-palm gloves and black boots. Her hair was pulled into a low bun and she had dark rimless sunglasses sitting on the middle of her nose, giving you a small glimpse of her eyes. William noticed they are slightly red and puffy but he knew not to ask her about it. "Wow! You look great Larissa. Only the best from our favorite fashionista!", William said, smiling at her. Larissa chuckled, "I picked out the outfits for Evie and Hera as well. I hope they like them." Joseph stood up and headed to the kitchen to get something to eat while calling over his shoulder, "I know they will." Hera walked into the room and grabbed her knives off of the table in front of William. She was dressed in a traditional black and white suit with black dress shoes. She had a com already in her ear and she wore dark sunglasses covering her eyes. Her hair was pulled back in a low bun as well. Larissa looked Hera up and down, "You look good. Is the suit comfortable?" "Yeah, it is actually. I wasn't expecting it to be this soft and flexible. Makes it easier to fight. Just in case." Larissa nodded, her mind lingering on Hera's last statement. This was a big mission. They had a lot to risk here so they were going to have to be careful. It was one hour until the gala and it took 45 minutes to get there. Where was Evie? The clicking of heels alerted everyone to look towards Evie's room. Joseph smirked while eating his sandwich while William gasped loudly. Larissa squealed and Hera just stared. Evie stood by the window. She wore a periwinkle silk dress (picture above-not mine) with matching periwinkle taffeta heels. Her hair was curled and in a bun, baby's- breath woven into it. The sparkling diamond earrings and beautiful diamond necklace she wore screamed rich and sophisticated. She had applied brown eyeshadow with a dark black winged out eyeliner and mascara. She had a light pink, shiny tint to her cheeks and nose from blush. She wore a sparkling lip gloss over a pink-tinted lip liner. Evie looked at everyone, "I'm ready."
"How is everyone?", Joseph voiced calmly over the coms. A simple 'fine' came from Larissa, Hera, and Evie who were on the way to the gala. Larissa was driving the limo to a building a block away from the gala where she would drop Hera off, making sure they didn't get noticed together. Evie watched as Hera calmly read her book, not even caring about Evie nervously fidgeting in front of her. Evie coughed a little into her hand, trying to get Hera's attention. Hera shut her book and laid it on the seat next to her and looked up at Evie, signaling to her that she had her attention. Evie wrung her hands together and took a deep breath. "My mom was diagnosed with rare heart disease when I was 12. She became very sick and none of the doctors in America could help her or figure out what it was. My father called every doctor in the world it seemed. He got ahold of a doctor in Paris and he said he could help us. He was well known and apparently could diagnose my mom. We couldn't go with her because of my father's work and my school. I hated not being able to see her but, she would call me and send postcards with notes on them. She always made sure I was doing alright when I just wanted to know if she was alright." Evie got choked up and Hera gave her a hand to hold. Evie sniffled and began again. "I was supposed to visit my mother a few days after my 16th birthday. My father had planned out the entire trip. My mother sent me a postcard, telling me how excited she was for me to come. She told me about this garden she wanted to visit because the doctor said that she was allowed to go outside but, only for a short time. The doctor told us she was getting better so when..." Evie choked up again and tried not to let the tears fall and ruin her makeup. "When she suddenly passed away a day later, we were shocked. I didn't know what to do. My mother was gone and my father hardly ever was around. I felt alone and scared. I graduated high school early and moved into my own apartment. I guess I just didn't know what to do until I got the letter. It told me everything about the mafia and why they wanted me to join. I felt like that was all I had. I joined immediately and quickly worked my way to the top. That's when I met you guys." Evie smiled at Hera but Hera just stared blankly at her. Evie murmured a 'sorry and looked away.
After a few minutes, Evie looked back up at Hera. She took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes. "The reason I'm telling you this is because we are here in the one place I've wanted to visit for a long time and I've wanted to tell you for so long. So, Hera, I want to tell you everything." They were getting close to where Hera was supposed to be dropped off. "I want to tell you I love you. Not as my best friend or as my partner but as my lover. I love everything about you. From your strong personality to your laugh and smile. I love how you have never left my side no matter what. I don't know how you feel and I don't know how tonight will go but, I want you to know that I truly want you to be with me." Hera just looked at Evie. She didn't say anything and the car came to a stop. Evie became nervous when she wasn't answering. Larissa opened the door for Hera, "Come on Hera, you have to go." Hera started sliding out of the car when Evie grabbed her sleeve. "Please Hera, talk to me. Tell me something. Please." Hera sat looking away from her. She spoke in a low tone, "I don't love you. That's crossing the line Evie and you know it. You most likely don't love me either. You said you were lonely when you joined the mafia right? That's all you are, lonely. You're just trying to convince yourself that you love me but you don't. You think that if you attach yourself to someone, all of your problems will be fixed. That's not how life works Evie. Please, don't talk about this again. I'll see you at the gala." With that, Hera got out of the car and Larissa shut the door. Larissa looked at Hera and spoke quietly, "You don't mean that, right?" Hera grabbed her sunglasses and put them on. "Of course I do. You know we can't have relationships with each other. She's just lonely. She doesn't mean any of it. She's also nervous for tonight and felt the need to find something to attach to. It calms her down." Larissa only sighed and walked back around to the drivers-sid door. She got in and looked in the rearview mirror. "You can cry now, Evie. The gala is right around the corner so you have about 10 minutes and I will touch up your makeup. After all, you need to be fashionably late." Larissa added the last part in hopes of cheering her up but the choked sob she heard broke her heart. Evie screamed into her hand and sobbed loudly. Larissa felt tears come to her eyes as well, remembering the news she received not too long ago. She knew how Evie felt. She hated having to see her so heartbroken. Larissa knew she couldn't do anything but wait. Maybe this would help Evie with the mission? She honestly didn't know how though, as she heard another choked sob come from the back seat.
