Freezing Fire

We were sitting in Spanish class when the principal came over the intercom saying we had to do a fire drill in the middle of the winter when it is freezing cold. The public schools hate us sometimes I swear. I decided that I didn't need my letterman jacket because it was 45°F (7°C) and it wasn't that cold.

When we started to walk out of the school, I started to have second thoughts on whether or not I should have grabbed my jacket before we left because looking around everyone else seemed to. I couldn't find any of my team mates or my friends for the matter of fact, so I just stood there by myself on my phone when all of a sudden a figure blocked the tiniest spot of sunlight which made me shiver.

When I look up it's the manager of the swim team, Alex. His hand is out handing me his jacket but all he has on is a t-shirt and is holding out l his jacket in his hand towards me.

"Here. You look freezing." He spoke politely and as quietly as possible.

"But you look like you need it more than I do." I answered.

"You're the one shivering and Coach would kill you if you got sick before the championships" Alex cared to mention the championships that he knew we only have one more chance to make it to State. But I still didn't want him to freeze to death either considering his season was about to start and mine was ending.

"Thank you." I whispered as I grabbed his jacket after he mentioned the championship because honestly he was right. I was cold and Coach would probably kill me if I did get sick.

I slipped on his jacket with his eyes never leaving me. I've never been this close to him before which made me nervous in an instant. "I'll give it back to you at practice." I said as I took a breath of his cologne.

"Keep it, the green looks good on you." He replied with which made me shocked, he would never let me have this jacket. "But it's your-" I said worried before he cut me off. "You'll just have to pay me back."
