"Daddy?" A soft innocent voice sounded through the phone, taking me by surprise.
"Uh, who's this?" I replied as I got up from my seat and walked over to the fridge. I could feel Nyah's eyes on me.
"Girl just hand me the phone... Look Q, this Dennis. I need you to come pick up your daughter. Meet me at the McDonald's on Main."
"Click!
I removed my phone away from my ear and just looked at it for a while.
Dennis was the girl I was dating a month before I got with Nyah. As far as the little girl calling me daddy over the phone, I had no clue about her.
So much thoughts ran through my head as I finally turned around and looked at Nyah who had a curious look on her face.
"Who was that babe?" Nyah asked as she poked her fork through one of the melons in her fruit bowl.
What was I going to tell her?
"Uh, that was just Leroy babe. He needs me to come down the shop to discus some things about the new worker we just hired last week."
"Oh. Okay babe. Well you better get going."
I sat back down next to my baby girl and picked up my fork to finish off where I left before I got that random phone call.
"No rush babe. I want to finish breakfast with my lady first."
She smiled that innocent smile I so loved. And right there and than, I felt guilty for lying to her.

"Mommy, why that man not know who I was? I taut you say he was daddy."
I sucked my teeth at yet another annoying question my daughter just had to ask. She was too young to understand, even if I were to answer it anyway.
"Quadira just go to your room and get your coat. We going to McDonald's so you can meet your daddy okay?"
I finished tucking the last bit of her things in her backpack and sat it by the front door. I sighed as I flopped down on the sofa.
4 years of doing this parenting thing all on my own, and today was the day that was all going to end.
I never told Q about Quadira because around the time I got pregnant with her, I was also messing with this white guy named Victor, who I wanted to believe that the baby was his.
He had no idea about the relationship I had with Q nor did Q know I was messing with him. So when me and Q broke up a month later without me even telling him about the growing baby in my belly, I went and moved in with Victor to start our little family.
Victor was there for me throughout my whole pregnancy giving me all the support I needed, and knew Quadire wouldn't have given me, since his job was always his main focus.
But all that changed the day of my delivery. I would never forget the excitement on Victors face when I woke up in the middle of the night and told him I think my water broke.
