He was sinking.

That was what it felt like, anyways. Trapped in an endless pit of quicksand, doomed to gradually descend forever. No matter how many times he'd try to claw his way out, it was no use.

He wasn't strong enough.

Who was he? He felt like he'd lost himself, his whole identity. All he knew was that he was in danger, and wanted out.

He had a reason, but he couldn't exactly place his finger on why. He wanted to do... something. What was it? It was a pressing goal, to get him out of this predicament to achieve what he wanted to do. He might remember something if he got closer, though.

But there was no getting closer now. The more time passed, the farther he fell into the unknown. He wasn't really falling, because he didn't exactly have a physical form. He was just there, knowing he was trapped yet not knowing how or why.

It was awful.

But suddenly, he felt something wash over him, a relieving feeling. It was as if he gained a bit of power for a bit, and was able to get closer to escaping. One, single drop of a memory hit him, and it hit him like an ice cold wave of water at 6 a.m. Just one word, that held so much meaning and symbolization. Each letter intricately designed to fit into the word like a puzzle, forming the solution.

He didn't know what he should've known about the word. It was faint knowledge, lingering in the back of his mind. But he knew it existed, and that was enough.

Before he could focus and attempt to call upon more memories, he slipped back down into the darkness. He had been closer. It was possible. Despite being at the starting point, the word burned into his mind, being unforgettable. Plastered inside, now it was the only thing he could have a solid thought process with.
