Breakfast at Hogwarts felt much more casual. Katsuki avoided sitting with the older Slytherins when he could. He had heard some of that old pureblood rhetoric still being muttered and he didn't need to start a fight before classes even began.
A section of table nearest the great hall enterance was relatively empty so he sat down to eat and keep an eye out for the redhead.
The post had begun to arrive and his pet owl had lovingly swooped down to drop a small letter.
"Long time no see, bird brain", Katsuki stratched the head of the great horned owl as he detatched the envelope.
"Enjoying the owlry?", he mumbled quietly to the bird so no one else would hear. A contented coo and a headbump was the response.
He offered a small bite of his bacon and watched as the bird flew off into the enchanted ceiling rafters.
It was his dad's handwriting, Katsuki didn't want to read the letter here on the off chance his father wrote something that actually made him tear up. He slipped the letter into his inner robe pocket and continued his meal.
He was about to reach for a discarded Daily Prophet when he finally caught a glimpse of bight red. Kirishima was standing in the doorway to the great hall swiviling his head about.
...he wouldn't. But as soon as his eyes landed on the blonde he started making his way toward the Slytherin table.
Fuck. This idiot was going to get him in hot water with his housemates without even realizing. He grabbed an apple and a nearby muffin and left his seat.
He cut off the redhead only a few steps from the doorway.
"Bakugou! Good morning!", he casually chirped. Kirishima's face started to contort into confusion as the blonde didn't slow to a stop but kept walking.
Their eyes connected and Katsuki threw the muffin to the redhead, "Let's go, loser"
"Wha.. oh, alright!", and just like that he turned and followed the blonde out of the great hall and toward the grand staircase, "Where should we explore first? Because honestly I'm completely lost in this place"
"Hmm.. let's start at the top and work our way down", Katsuki hadn't really thought of where he wanted to explore but he really wanted to see things from the highest vantage point he could find in the castle.
Maybe he could mark some nice brooding spots where he could hide when the extras became too annoying. He just wasn't used to so many people being constantly around all the time.
"Wanna race to the top of the stairs then look for an even higher up route?" Kirishima's words were slightly garbled from the muffin he just shoved into his mouth.
"You're on," the blonde answered with a sneer and took off taking two stairs at a time with the redhead right on his tail. After a minute or two, they had to pause and grab a banister as the current staricase swings off the wall and changes direction.
