Chapter 5

-Day 2 part 2< Zander's Pov>-

   As I'm stitching up this poor creature, I'm still astonished that Kameron didn't kill it immediately like she would normally with any other monster. Millions of questions flow through my head as minutes pass, turning into hours due to some of the cuts being infected and severely deep. I look up at the time and it's already three in the morning, I sigh tiredly and quickly finish up by putting bandages and antibiotics on the stitched up wounds. I check his pulse and with a satisfied sigh it's normal. 

           I check the IV bag seeing that it's still good on fluid. I go to Kameron, to check on her and tell her that he's alright.  I open the curtain that separates us, I see her asleep in a chair with her head supported by her hands that's on her knees.  I quietly walk over to her and tap her on the shoulder, she groans not wanting to be disturbed from her slumber.  "Pst Kameron wake up, I'm all finished", I say quietly rubbing her shoulder to wake her up.

      She tiredly looks up at me and yawns then jolts awake remembering what happened and runs past me to see the unnamed legend lying peacefully asleep covered up in a white and blue blanket all wrapped up in bandages.   "Thank you Zander for helping him but I'm still questioning myself on why I didn't kill him like I normally would with monsters..", I hear Kam say with worry and relief.  "No problem Kam but that's what surprises me the most that you didn't kill him, but who knows maybe your heart saw something in him that no one that encountered him saw in him.", I reply, trying to resolve her worry.  "What do you mean by that?" She asks me with some interest, wanting to know more about the sleeping creature.

     "Well Kam knowing that he's a legend he and his family were most likely hunted down for their skin.." I say bluntly.   She turns her head and body to the sleeping fable. Suddenly, the sleeping creature turns it's head left and right, waking up from his slumber.  Slowly opening his dark grey eyes he looks at Kameron and I.  He slowly tries to sit up, I help him carefully trying not to spook him.  He looks around and opens his mouth trying to make out words to say, "Where am I, who are you people, please don't hurt me." he stutters with fear and a few tears forming from his eyes.

  "Hey hey it's okay we're gonna hurt you, and you're in our bunker. Also I'm Zander and my friend Kameron." I speak calm and softly to the sacred creature. "She's the one who found you.." He turns to Kameron and nods softly to thank her for finding him.   "Are you hungry? Thirsty?" I ask the pale male who's shaking a little from nervousness. "A bit yeah..." he answers shyly.  I nod and ask Kam to get some food and water for him.  I offer him some clothes to put on and when he gets done choosing what he likes, I wait outside of the curtain to give him some privacy so he can dress.   Kam comes back with his food and a glass of water, carefully she gives him the tray of food and glass.

      After a while he finishes eating his small tray of food and drinking his glass of water, "My name is Shift, and thank you for helping me Zander and Kameron.." he quietly says looking down at his hands as he fiddles his thumbs. I look up at the time saying five am then I hear a door opening and closing, followed by footsteps and quiet murmurs groans.  I look to see who is up and I see Kiki rubbing her eyes, and slowly waddling over to me asking why I'm up, I pick her up so she doesn't fall then she sees Kameron and Shift. "Kam why are you up and who's that?'' she yawns tiredly and points to Shift sitting on the bed.

               I tell her that Kam and I will explain everything once everyone is up. "Shift, this is Kiki, our little engineer." I introduce Kiki to Shift, as he silently nods and waves shly from the bed. I see Kiki look at Shift and his outfit like it's missing something.  I can practically see the gears in her head turning, she suddenly jolts awake and jumps out of my arms and goes to her quarters of the bunker, and sometime after hearing metal shelves moving, she comes back with a collar and gives it to Shift and tells him to put it on. 

        Hesitantly he puts the collar on. She smiles and jumps whenever she makes a new machine or gadget. "I knew it! It totally fits you!" She says happily, this makes Shift smile a little and tells her thanks quietly, unused to her energy and the sudden kindness he long for centuries.  Shift yawns and rubs his eyes tiredly, he taps on Kameron's arm and whispers to her that he's tired and would like to sleep.  Kam tells me this and I check the time and it's five thirty, I nod and then me, Kam, and Kiki go back to our shared bedroom to go back to sleep as well.

                 After a few hours later I hear footsteps and tired groans, so I get up reluctantly to see who else is up.   I see Chris, Ri and everyone else up, so I walk over to Kam, reminding her what I said when she found Shift.   She nods and goes over to her brother and tells him what happened, he nods and asks her to meet Shift.   She walks over to me and the two follow me over to where Shift is, when we get there Shift is already awake and lying on the bed still underneath the borrowed blankets. I see his long pointed ears perk up when he sees me and Kam, then they go down again and hides under the blankets when he sees Rivaille.   "Who's this?" he quietly stutters, Kam goes up to him and introduces her brother to him, and explains that he's the leader of the group.

             Then I hear some footsteps and some voices followed by Chris opening the curtain that was closed for Shift's privacy.  "Hey Zan hav- Woah who's this?!" Chris says, then Jack and Kiki come in also.  This causes Shift to hide more underneath the blankets and transform into a grayish brown and yellow tipped hedgehog all balled up.   Kameron picks him up and tells him that he's okay, then explains everything and introduces everyone to him, while everyone else, including me, is astonished how he transformed and how kind Kameron is being to the shy legend.

         After some time of Kameron calming down Shift he transforms back to his human state fully clothed and still wearing the collar that Kiki gave him.  Kam asks her little brother if he can stay and join the crew. He says yes and has her show him around the bunker.  After Kameron shows him around, I see he has gotten used to Kameron, Jack, and I.  As hours passed we had lunch and dinner then listened to all of Shift's amazing and quite thrill seeking stories he encountered, then played some board games that we found that were still in good shape. I would have to say after finding Jack and having him join as well, it finally feels like home and as if there wasn't an apocalypse happening.   Now where did I put my book?...
