3rd person POV:

It was the middle of chemistry class and peter was paying 0 attention. He already knew everything that was being taught, and his crush was in this class, Harley Keener, the boy he had liked since 7th grade, was sitting just across the class from him.

Peter had had a crush on Harley ever since he had come up to Peter in 7th grade and asked if peter wanted to play football with him. The crush had only grown over time. It was now sophomore year and Peter had fallen hard. Harley too, unbeknownst to peter or anybody really, had a crush on Peter. It had been for less time, only since the beginning of freshman year, but was nonetheless still there.

Harley's POV:

"Hey man, you here," Derik says, waving his hand in my face.

"Yeah sorry I was just thinking, what were you saying," I respond before immediately zoning back out again.

Derik is one of my football buddies, we have been playing on the same team for 3 years now. He is great but right now I do not care about whatever girl he is dating this week. I'm busy thinking about the upcoming dance. It is just the winter ball but I have to make an important decision. No one on the team knows I'm gay so I can do one of three things. I can pick one of the many girls always hovering around me or my friends, I can out myself and possibly have a chance with the greatest guy at this school, or I can just not get a date and go alone. As much as I want to pick option two I know it is out of the running. No one can ever know that I'm gay, especially not the guys. I could take a girl but that does not seem fair to her or me. I guess I'm going alone.

Peter POV: (After school)

"This isn't funny guys. This is horrible and stressful," I say a tad bit overdramatic.

"Oh come on Peter just ask him out," MJ says in her usual bored tone, "It isn't that hard. Plus, he obviously likes you,"

"But what if he doesn't? What if he isn't even into guys? My life would be over MJ, OVER!" I respond, freaking out a little.

The winter ball is next week and I want to ask out my long-time crush, Harley Keener, but there is no way in hell that I am doing that. He is perfect, on the football team, hot, tall, strong, he even has a southern accent. Plus, he probably isn't even gay. It is better I just stick to what I usually do and hang out in the back corner of the dance on my phone with my friends.

~~~~~~~~~~Time Skip brought to you by the awkward gay teens of tomorrow~~~~~~~~~~
Well, the night of the dance is here and just as I planned I am standing in corner of the auditorium watching some kids awkwardly grind on each other or cluster with friends. Social outings like dances aren't really my scene. I never know what to say and it is always so loud and sweaty.
I wasn't going to come but MJ and ned made me. Of course, MJ is off talking to Adeline, a cute girl in our grade that MJ totally has a crush on, and Ned is off dancing somewhere with Betty Brant. So now I am sitting alone on my phone in the corner scrolling through Reddit. That is until someone interrupts me.
" Your friends ditch you too?" The mystery boy says.
" Yep. They dragged me to the dance and then left me on my own," I say looking up at whoever interrupted my sullen scrolling.
Holy hell, it's Harley Keener. I have been talking to Harley Keener.
" Well, A cute boy like you shouldn't spend the whole dance, off to the side. What do you say we go dance," Harley said in that cute accent of his.
"S-s-sure, I mean yea let's dance, why not," I reply, completely unsure about anything I was saying.
And we danced. We danced and danced and danced, and it was the best night of my life.
~~~~~~~~~Le Time skip to the end of the dance where we find our young lovers~~~~~~~~

"I had a great time tonight," Harley says as we finish dancing.

"I did too. It was great," I say blushing a little.

"Well I have to go find Ned and MJ now my Aunt is driving us home," I say awkwardly.

" Ok goodnight," Harley says, and then after a pause, he adds, "Hey Peter, Here's my number. You should text sometime,"

With that, we parted ways. I thought about the dance for the rest of the night as I fell asleep.
