Covered in warm bedwear, the boy kept his eyes on the moon glistening in the endless sky. A knock on his door interrupted his thoughts. A woman his age opened the door with her nightgown and gave him a sweet smile.
"Arla, did you get the job?" She inquired. The ginger head smiled.
"I did! I'll start working next week. I'm sure my performance will be good enough!" He beamed. She giggled at his childish behavior and went to close the window and block the see-through glass with the thick curtains."Faith, are there people that resent me?" Arla inquired. His best companion, Faith, shrugged in response.
"I'm sure they'll grow out of it. After all, you're not the only Irish here." She assured.
He nodded and gave her a bright grin, "Will you be available on Sunday?" He questions. Arla had a wonderful idea of taking Faith to wonder about this preserved forest just across the nearest lake. He had already planned on asking the master of the home, but he needed Faith's approval before anything."Unfortunately, Sunday will be my engagement party," She began. Arla's plans to go out came to a stop and he was confused. "They had just announced the news to me. I'm not sure what to wear or prepared!" She said dreading the day. Arla sure wasn't fond of this either. It must've been her Fiancee, Harold.
"I'll help you! Besides, if that Harold Lord lays a hair on you, I'll remind him where he stands in the relationship." He says confidently. Faith fell in awe at his statement.
"Of course, he forbid you to come."
"What a gentleman, he sure is in my meathead list of embarrassments." Arla rolled his eyes. Though, as a promising friend Faith had toward Arla, she insisted that he would wear woman's wear to blend in."I have just the perfect dress for you! Honor me, this gown will be divine on you, Arla!" She assured. Arla wasn't uneasy about the dress fitting him, but rather the dress suffocating his physical structure.
"I can't disappoint, you're tying my hands. Either way, I'll wear it just to be with you!"
"Arla what an angel in disguise you are! I'll repay you.""Faith, no need! Your family repaid me by living here and being accepted as an Irish. It's enough for me." He smiled as Faith couldn't help but wrap her arms around the male and both friends embraced each other's support.
"Say, you're very different from the stories our folks say. I keep hearing their wapping about how Irish Scottish are the cause of disease and misfortune in the town that's most populated." She mentioned.
Arla grinned at the rumors, "Are you saying this to make me answer such nonsense?" He inquired. Faith denied his comment and turned her head to his shelf. An oval frame on his desk, a woman with gorgeous brown hair and glimmering eyes made the two feel at ease.
She was a servant girl her entire life. Why did she have to leave so soon?
"Before going to our picnic, it wouldn't hurt to visit her!" Arla chimes. Faith agreed and was now eager for the upcoming Sunday to arrive."Also, care to tell me the story?"
"At such an hour?" Arla giggles. Faith pouted and playfully laid on his bed and huddled herself up in his blanket. It reminded him of his mother seeing them do sleepovers like this one."A town down the river, a family had just built their fortress in the colony owned by neighbors from across their home country. A girl, in particular, stood out from her 6 brothers. Calling them and their friends freaks, she found the love of her life, that was assumed to be her soulmate." He smiled.
Faith blurred, "So, was he?" She beamed
Arla continued his tale, "Bearing a child, the woman fled home in hopes that her lover would devote himself to help them, but the fire of love was never present in his heart as she believed. In furry of the news, he chased her out of her fantasy, and just as death took her, she bewitched him and both laid in their tombs." He concluded with a smirk. Faith was astonished by his fairytale and yearned for more similar ones."Magnificent! Is this story a summary of the song you'll be performing on your first day?" She interrogated him. Arla chuckled at her curiosity but joined in on the bed. It's a wonderful thing that the bed was made larger compared to 3 years ago.
"I'm not sure, you'll see yourself if you join us!"
"How could I? My future spouse would throw me down a tomb-hole than to hear me in the Cavern to support you!" She groans. He's too controlling of her decisions and yet he's breaking the marital rules written in the contract. If only his father could put him in his place!
"At least, the dear man of your dreams is the very opposite of his brother!" Arla cooed. Faith's face began to flush red, she knew his scheme.
"Enough! I... He's already married. I bestow a great lifelong honor towards them and prosperity in their marriage!" She claimed. Arla hummed and adjusted his form to sleep on his side. Faith laid on her stomach and before they closed their eyes to slumber, they exchanged their sweet dreams.
"Good luck with tomorrow, rest well!"
"Indeed, can't wait for the dress, enjoy the slumber!"Jolly Christmas! 🎄🌟⛄
