Hanazuki and Kiyoshi's relationship was practically perfect in every way.

Hanazuki was the perfect golden angel, who fought valiantly against Twisted for Kiyoshi. Kiyoshi was the brave knight, who would do anything for her. He was constantly favoring her with gifts of flowers and chocolate and other romantic things. I love you's were constantly being exchanged. It was basically every romantic cliche wrapped in two adorable moonflower-shaped packages.

At least, that's how it looked on the outside. The reality of the relationship was quite different.

Hanazuki was very much a moonflower who was in love with the idea of love, and while Kiyoshi wasn't nearly as bad, he was a romantic as well. The two poured over practically every romance story they could get their hands on, and tried to reenact them to the best of their ability.

(At one point, that led to an awkward moment where they had to convince everyone that they weren't actually breaking up, that's just what happened in the story. And no, Kiyoshi wasn't a secret vampire who was about to turn her, please put that stake away Kiazuki)

But when they weren't acting out scenes from overly-emotional teen novels, things between them were a lot more messy. Although Kiyoshi still tried to play up the ultra-cool mysterious bad boy archetype, at the end of the day, he was still Kiyoshi, and Hanazuki ended up trapping the spider in a jar so it would be free to roam outside of his room.

Meanwhile, Hanazuki would get all dolled up in the most beautiful dresses, only to mess them up with dirt from her garden. And while she tried to stand patiently by and let Kiyoshi "heroically" pull out weeds for her, she would eventually get tired of waiting and take care of the problem.

But while Kiyoshi couldn't be Hanazuki's perfect knight, he could be others things. He could be the one who noticed when she was overworking herself and help pick up the slack when no-one else did. He could be the one who would show her the sometimes bizzare properties of the treasures he had found that he loved experimenting with, wowing her with yet another aspect of her amazing world. He was the the one whose embarrased grin sent her heart beating a thousand times a minute.

And while Hanazuki couldn't be Kiyoshi's perfect angel, she too, could be other things. She could be the girl who made him handmade, mishapen clay figures that barely resembled the things they were allegedly supposed to represent, but that he kept anyways since it was clear that they were made with love. She could be the one who would get excited over the teeniest little catepilliar, and in turn get him excited too. She could be the one whose loud announcements of "That's my boyfriend!" make him feel both embarrased and happy at the same time.

In reality, there love was not one of slow waltzes in their finest outfits. It was one of giggling in the mud puddle all while competing to see who could get the other the most dirty, with the reward being kisses (after a long bath, of course, where splash fights took place)

But it was okay. After all, love wasn't always flawless red roses and perfect picnics. Love could be silly too.
