the usually lively city was now littered with corpses, covered in dust, and tinted in the red colour of hot flames. a lot of people had died and suffered until their very last breath, people you knew and had talked to a few hours ago before this hell had happened. was there even a reason to keep going? everyone knew that the war and hate between marleyans and eldians would never stop.

that didn't matter right now, as soldier your duty was to kill as many enemies as possible to protect those who survived. your eyes laid on one of the fallen female soldiers of paradis laying peacefully on the floor next to you. your special forces uniform was identical to hers, both tight black suits with harnesses, smeared with crimson red blood, that sparkled in the setting sun. what did she feel before the bullet pierced through her skin? was she scared? relieved? was she alone? did she have friends? does she have someone waiting for her to get home?

"gabi no, stop it" the scream of a familiar voice echoed through the city, dragging you out of your thoughts. "don't do it gabi, that's dangerous" and once again but this time your legs moved towards the source of falco's voice.

you were more than aware of the fact, that gabi used to get herself into big trouble when it came to close situations like these. she was a fighter, but very impulsive and never rational enough. on the opposite falco, who observed and analysed the possible outcomes of his actions before actually doing it.

"i can't just stand here and watch. I'm going to kill as many island devils as I can"

"you're being an idiot. you're just going to get yourself killed"

whatever gabi was up to would most certainly get falco into danger as well and you had promised someone a long time ago, that you would protect them at all costs.

"y/n promise me to look after gabi while I'm gone... you are the only one who she listens to"

"i will reiner, I promise"

"gabi, falco where are you?" the yelling had stopped for a while and you failed to determine their location, even though you were sure they should've been only a corner away. all you could see were dead bodies of both paradis and marleyan soldiers, a lot of broken equipment and smoke rising from every angle of the city. a cold breeze brushed past you, letting your hair fly with the wind as one of the airships appeared on the grey sky.

"y/n"

"y/n is that you?" colt walked out of the alley behind you with bloodshot eyes, his blonde locks messily falling into his face. "colt! are you alright? what happened?" you had known colt for quite a long time, as you have been training together ever since you were five years old. it was very unusual for him to show his sensitive side in front of you which made you grow even more curious about what had happened to him.

he always tried to be tough whenever you were around, even when you were younger, to make you fell safe around him.

"colt! talk to me!" he fell into you arms, burying his face in your neck while you felt his warm breath against your skin. you could feel the rapid heartbeat in your chest as you became even more anxious as those moments passed in complete silence, without a single word from colt.
