AS ALWAYS, THE WEEKEND FLEW BY and in the blink of an eye Sunday had rolled around. It was always Delaney's least favourite day of the week, as it signalled the end of a weekend and the beckoning of Monday morning. But for once, the blonde was rather content given her plans for the evening ahead. Her father, having seemingly started his emotional recovery from the loss of his soulmate, had finally decided after a few long weeks to resume their traditional Sunday night dinners as a family. It would never be as wholesome as it once was, as there was a very noticeable motherly figure missing from the left end of the table, but it was giving Delaney the chance to reconnect with her father.
Neither Delaney, Daniel nor their father cooked for their Sunday meal. They had enough money to hire someone for that, and Delaney found herself missing her mother's home-cooking at the sight of a perfectly cooked lasagna being set down in the centre of the table. Her mother's lasagna was never perfect - she had a tendency to overcook it leaving the top layer more crispy than cheesy. But it was of a comfort to them nevertheless.
"How are your classes going this year, Delaney?" John Knight asked his only daughter, genuinely appearing interested in her answer which delighted her to no end. "Danny mentioned you switched major again?"
"I reckon she keeps switching majors before her professors realise she's a dumbass," Daniel snorted into his milk, receiving a swift kick to the shin bone from his sister directly across the table.
"You didn't even graduate high school to get to meet professors," Delaney fired back with a scornful glare, which soon dropped as she turned to her father. "It's going okay, to be honest I'd have thought I'd figure out what I want to do by now but I haven't really found anything that interests me..."
"You're still young, I wouldn't worry," her father reassured, uplifting her spirits immediately. Delaney was definitely a Daddy's girl and often didn't feel validated about things until her father complimented them. "You know, if you don't think college is for you I can always find you something to do for your family. There are a lot of things in motion at the minute-"
"Dad." Daniel spoke up, shooting warning glares at the side of his father's head. Delaney frowned at the interaction, up until now her lack of deep involvement in her family's activities had been her choice. Now it seemed her brother wanted her kept out of it completely.
"Don't interrupt me," John retorted, leaning back in his seat and raising an eyebrow at his son. "There's a place for everyone. Do you really think I'd put her in harm's way?"
Daniel shrugged, suddenly finding his food the most interesting thing in the world. Delaney was baffled, and a little concerned. How dangerous were these plans they had in motion against Kingpin?
"Thanks for the offer, dad. But I don't think I'm cut out for that kind of stuff," Delaney admitted. "I mean- can you imagine if I walked into a bank and told people to put their hands up? They'd just think I was playing a rather demanding game of Simon Says."
