A picture is worth 1,000 words, but how do you condense the 100,000 or so in a book into a single image? assist readers in determining whether or not a book is appropriate for them After all, a single image is much easier to digest than 150+ pages of text.
So, how do you ensure that a book's cover captures the soul of the book and entices the right reader to pick it up off the shelf (whether physical or digital)? Begin with a genre.
You may use it on other genres but this is preferable for the action genre writers. With that said, let's dive deeper into the world of editing
≫ ──── ≪•◦ ❈ ◦•≫ ──── ≪
You can use a lot of software devices to create the book cover that you desire. You can choose from a variety of different styles, such as typography, illustrations, and other different styles. We are going to tackle each and also give tips on how to pick the proper style that fits your story.
Here are a few lists of software editing sites and apps you can use:
1. Canva (desktop/mobile)
2. Adobe Photoshop (desktop)
3. Ibis Paint X for Mobile (mobile)
4. Picsart (mobile)
5. Over (mobile)
There is plenty of software, but these are the most-used apps. On the other hand, if you're dealing with a book cover that requires photography and pictures, you either need to buy the photo for copyright purposes or go to sites that give you free images.
Here are a few lists of websites where you can get images for free:
1. Pixabay
2. Pexels
3. Unsplash
4. Burst
5. Free Images
6. Kaboompics
Now let's go on the different styles of Book Cover.
1. Typography
Loud, attention-grabbing typography has been popular in recent years and shows no signs of subsiding. These are covers where the text takes up the majority of the available space. The capitalized fonts practically scream at you in a not-so-subtle way, drawing all attention to the title—a bold choice in the world of books.
2. Illustration
Using this style requires extensive knowledge of software programs such as photoshop... But now there are apps in which you can use or by illustration. Custom illustrations are vastly adaptable. They are used everywhere, from to and everything in between.
Illustration styles can be clean and elegant, simple or chaotic, playful, or stern. The only limit to an illustration is the designer's own creativity.
This adaptability allows illustrated book covers to effectively capture your book's tone and character with original artwork. It also ensures that an illustration style can make a unique impression and visually stand out.
3. Retro Nostalgia
If your book features a logical thematic relationship to a particular time period, feel free to embrace style elements of that era, such as black and white colors, in your cover design.
But, cover imagery that clearly depicts a specific time period should be reserved for works that are actually set in that time period.
Old-school design elements can inspire readers to reminisce on what used to be and even conjure positive feelings associated with those times while flipping through the pages. This style preferably used in the plot is in 18's & 19's action novels.
I will create another chapter solely just for the fonts because there is a lot to discuss...
