"Big sis! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Rebecca!! Wake uuuuuuuup!" The excited cry of a young girl echoes from atop a monastery.
"UuuuUuuUURrrGh wazzappening?" Rebecca groaned rubbing her eyes. She was NOT a morning person. Rebecca grunted, opening her eyes to see her younger sister hanging off the top of the bunkbed, gleefully looking down at her sisters unimpressed expression.
"This better be important, Minakae."
"Its the big day! Don't tell me you've forgotten!" Minakae exclaimed. Rebecca pondered for a moment then her eyes shot open.
"That's right! Happy birthday, little sis!"
"Happy birthday to you too!"

[AUTHORS NOTE- Yes, they share a birthday. They were, coincidentally, born on the same day. They are 5 years apart]

Rebecca and Minakae ran downstairs, not to be greeted by their Mum and Dad, but by their uncle, holding 2 small packages, both wrapped with golden ribbon.
"Where are Mum and Dad?" Rebecca asked instantly, face dropping.
"What am I, chopped liver?"
"You are what you eat."
"Very funny, Bec. Happy sweet 16th, by the way."
"Thank you, Uncle Kataru."
"Yaaaay! Uncle K!" Minakae shouted, jumping on Kataru's back, knocking him to the floor.
"Bear ride! Bear ride!" She chanted. Rebecca just sat down and observed the predicament her uncle was in. She couldn't help but laugh.
"Mini-k, get off or no present for you," Kataru said sternly. Minakae couldn't have gotten off her uncle faster.
"Speaking of which, can I open mine?" Rebecca asked.
"You're quite like your mother, Bec. Always so impatient." Kataru laughed.
"Come on! Just let me see!" Rebecca groaned as she leaped for the box in her uncle's hand, snatching it away and ripping open the wrapping. After opening the lid, she was face to face with-
"Father's pendant. He... wow okay. That was unexpected. He's never let me touch it, and now he's giving it to me? I get that I'm now 16, but still... I wonder why." Rebecca queried.
"Oooh! Oooh! My turn! My turn!" Minakae squealed, grabbing hers from Kataru and opening it.
"Oooooooooh! Pretty!" She said, her brown eyes greeted by a necklace almost identical to the one Rebecca had received.
"I gotta go. Your mother is gonna be back in 20. Enjoy your birthday breakfast!" Kataru grinned as he walked out. Rebecca looked on the kitchen counter and sighed. Fish. Raw fish, no less.
"Predictable. Should've known he can't cook." Rebecca says to Minakae, chuckling.

"KIDS! I'm home!" A voice came from outside, followed by the sound of a door opening.
"MOM!" Minakae laughed, jumping into her mother's arms.
"Minakae? Is that you? Wow you've gotten so big since I last saw you!" She smiled.
"Yep!" Minakae said proudly.
"I'm happy to see my bear of a brother gave you your presents." Their mother says, putting down her youngest child.
"Yeah, he did. I love it by the way. Just promise me something."
"Go on?"
"Don't make us eat his," Bec started, then doing finger quotes, "cooking."
That made her mother laugh.
"Mom? Will dad be coming?" Bec asked her mother, whose smile faded immediately. She sighed.
"I doubt it, Rebecca. However, his friends and uncle are here." She offered a weak smile.
"Wait, they're here? That means..." Bec says as a smile forms from ear to ear. She runs outside into the courtyard and sees her friends, Coda, Jade, Lean, Caden, Mike, Z, all their parents --Except Z's father, more on that later--, and her great-uncle starting to sing Happy Birthday. When the song concluded Bec and Minakae were swamped with tons of presents, and the adults went inside, with Minakae following swiftly.
"Hey guys! It's been a while!" Bec chirped, giving hi-fives to all her friends, but Z didn't respond when she held her hand up for him.
"Come on, Z, don't leave me hanging!" Bec smiled. Z just stares at her hand, then walks off.
"Whoa, harsh." Bec mutters, watching his back become smaller and smaller from perspective.
"It's not a good time for him, Bec." Coda explains quietly.
"Yeah..." she says, mournfully. "I know.."

"Wow, Bec! Cool necklace!" Jade exclaims, eager to change the subject
"It's a pendant." Rebecca grumbles.
"Pretty sure they're the same thing." Coda smirks.
"Shut up guys!" Bec whinged, "It is MY birthday!"
"Okay, okay." Caden says with moch surrender, "Since it IS your birthday... you get-
"EXTRA TEASING!" Minakae finishes, Caden catching her in a headlock.
"Lemme go, you meanie!" Bec whinged.
"How is it you're older than me and I still manage to outwit you?" Caden smirks smugly
"Don't be mean, lil bro." Lean sighs with a smile
"Okay, okay. Sorry Bec." Caden laughs
"Don't worry 'bout it." Bec sighs.
"Sensei!" A voice comes from behind Rebecca, inside the monestary walls, interrupting the group's conversation.
"Leo?" Bec asks, turning around to see a quill covered 10-year-old boy, who jumped into her arms.
"Happy birthday, Sensei!" He says, making sure that his quills don't prick her.
"SENSEI??" The others exclaim, shocked, confused and suprised.
"Yeah, I've been helping Leo to control his emotions and his powers during the night." Bec shrugs.
"Which is why you're so tired during the day! That makes sense now!" Jade realises
"And teaching me spinjitzu aswell." Leo adds, jumping off her, doing spinjitzu for a short time. Bec laughs nervously.
"You taught him spinjitzu?" Lean scolds, glaring at her friend.
"I know, I know. But think about it. Ninjago may be in a time of peace, but that peace will not last forever. There will be a time that war comes and we may not be here to protect our fair land." Bec tries to reason.
"But remember Wu and Morro. A huge battle began because-" Caden starts.
"You know we don't talk about Morro."
"At the time of the attack, Morro believed it was his destiny to become the Green Ninja. I don't believe I'm supposed to be a warrior of some importance. I just wish not to harm anyone with my abilities and earn a title as the "Master of Porcupine"." Leo says, impressing everyone with his knowledge of Ninjago history and his motives.
"Ok, you got me there." Caden sighs.
"But that doesn't change the rule your father set." Lean points out.
"True. But I-" Bec tries to counter, but was interrupted by her great-uncle, being led outside by Z.
"You thought you knew better than your father, my nephew." He says.
"He sought help. I did nothing wrong." Bec says, turning to face him.
"With all due respect, sir, I actually sought your guidance. But then I read about Morro. I realised that you would not agree to teach me. I decided to come here anyway, to see Ninjago's history. Then I met Sensei, who saw I was struggling to control my powers of porcupine, and offered to help me control my emotions, in turn, controlling my inner animal. She also taught me spinjitzu, but at my request. I wish to one day have a pupil of my own and teach them what I have learnt over the last year." Leo says to Bec's Grand-Uncle, bowing down.
"My, my, what a polite young man you turned out to be. Perhaps I misjudged you, young master of porcupine." The old man says kindly. "You may stay, no more secret lessons."
Bec's eyes widen in shock, then a wide smile forms on her face.
"Thank you, Uncle Wu."
