TARA VERRAS KNEW NO SYSTEM WAS PERFECT. The Jedi Order, the Republic, they were all the same with their flaws and their outdated rules, but that didn't mean they weren't worth fighting for. Tara was not one to advocate for violence, but if a war was the only option to restore peace and protect what she cared most about, then what other choice did she have?
TARA VERRAS ALSO KNEW HER STRENGTHS, and while she wasn't outright arrogant like some Jedi were, she wasn't afraid to acknowledge them. She was confident and respectful with a fiery spirit of determination and loyalty. She was also strong with the Force, perhaps more than most, for she considered it an ally rather than a simple tool. Because of that, it was no surprise when the Council offered her the chance to take on a Padawan, and she accepted without hesitation.
XEN FLORA WAS, PUT SIMPLY, RATHER ARROGANT—which wasn't surprising for a fourteen year old boy raised in the comforting yet competitive Jedi Temple. He seemed to have a knack for insubordination and getting into trouble, and Tara had first heard his name through a conversation with several other Jedi, all of whom warned her to choose anyone but him to be her Padawan. Naturally Tara was intrigued and therefore chose to keep an eye on him.
THE WAR WAS LOOMING. The Battle of Geonosis was only months away, not that anyone had any idea of what was to come. Tara was impressed by Xen's lightsaber technique, and he was disciplined in the use of the Force, though it was clear his true understanding of it was limited. He had a lot to learn, but that was to be her job as a Master, wasn't it? She was to teach her Padawan how to be a Jedi, and she believed she could teach him. Against the advice of many, she took him under her wing as her Padawan...and then the Clone War began just weeks later, and she was forced to reevaluate everything she knew.
