"When A Storm Hits"

Despite staring up to the sky at the positioning of the sun, awaiting the days to pass by so they could arrive home, the day and night went by quick and the next day arrived at last. Though unsure, it appeared their plan of twisting the boat side to side worked due to to the lack of opposing movements upon the boat. Perhaps the mer-people thought it wasn't worth their time, Levi realised how little loyalty and commitment they appeared to have. It matched wild animals who mostly viewed one another as a replaceable object.

"I think they've finally left us alone. The mer-people I mean," Zoe mentioned to him, just as he was thinking it himself. They were both outside, sat down with a piece of bread in their hands to eat for lunch. Crumbs covered her clothing at where she'd been devouring it, half of it already missing. Limited food now presented a potential threat, rations to each pirate had been cut down and they had just enough to get back home. This meant when they were able to eat, the food disappeared as though a magic trick.

Levi, on the other hand, picked and nibbled at the food in his hands. It was rather stale and that made it more tasteless. Hunger still panged within him, but the hunger had numbed itself, "Didn't take them long to give up."

"I know right, it's like they don't even care," she said, "It's weird how different their emotions must be. Unless they're planning something else? They might be going back to get even more mer-people, they clearly didn't have many if they could've properly turn the boat."

"Maybe they've seen the storm brewing." They both looked up, dark grey clouds everywhere, few spots of sky were dotted in view. It was due a blow of chaos soon enough, it had taken its time to form. The storm also meant fishing for food proved useless as the fish didn't dare swim to the thin barrier separating sea from air. In fact, they hadn't seen an animal in a long time, not since the herd of orcas making an escape and the kraken.

"Yeah, it's probably going to hit overnight or tomorrow. Maybe they think the storm will kill us and that's why they left us alone," Zoe thought out. It wasn't a terrible theory, but something about the whole thing sat wrong with Levi, even Zoe felt it. But the need to search for rationality persisted.

Life as a pirate never went by as smoothly as this. Even small sailors who went out sailing for fish to eat encountered some sort of obstacle that made things difficult. To say they were travelling across what felt like a foreign sea due to the limited knowledge on it, things were easy. Sure, they'd seen a kraken that almost knocked them over and some mermaids attempted to scratch their boat to nothing, but the kraken hadn't been seen for a long time and the mermaids left them alone in the end. Even the storm above them took its time to brew and hadn't even hit them yet. The waves were calmer than expected, still aggressive and the wind deafened them, but all was tolerable. The confusion of everything conflicted with their feelings, predicting things had multiplied in difficulty and the safety of land felt so far away still. Due to the changing winds in all directions, sometimes the boat ended up fighting a losing battle with nature and stopped travelling at the expected speed.

"It's been easy so far," Levi finally said, deciding that staying in his own mind burdened himself.

"I know, I didn't think we'd even get a merman, forget begin travelling back home," she responded, fiddling with her feet on the floor. The slight heaviness of the leather material produced a thick sounds of clashing fabric every time her shoes crossed paths. She ended up making a rhythm with it.

Levi looked at her, "Then why did you come? You're married now, you can't be this ignorant."

"I told you." she looked back at him, "I wanted a last adventure."
