This had been Sidharth's life for years now, things had come to a point where he no longer cared about anything or anyone, not even himself. In the two choices of life, he had chosen to distance himself from the world...from every emotion that existed.
Kehta hai ka zindagi ko badalta waqt nahi lagta, par khabhie khabhie waqt ko badalne me zindagi lag jati hai. Sidharth Arvind Sahni had lived these lines. Once upon a time, it hadn't even taken a moment for his safe haven to fall apart, uski zindagi badal gi thi.
However, he hadn't lost hope...not at all. Instead at that time, he had waited for time change, his naïve and innocent self had prayed...had begged for things to turn around. He had pleaded for the little happiness, that he had at that time, to come back...for life to return to normal, yet that never happened. Back then his naivety had him believing that the power above there wouldn't let the innocence of a soul go to ruin. But he was wrong. His soul had cried...had begged for mercy but he was never granted any. The power up there, if there was even one, just watched him suffer. He was dragged to the ruins and now he had nothing left, nothing at all...
Sidharth let out a deep sigh as he sat on the couch, glaring at the small, petite body that lay sprawled across his mattress. He watched as small whiffs of air left her slightly gaping mouth. The way she would occasionally frown and then smile as she mumbled something in her sleep, the way she cuddled one of his pillows to her chest while she snuggled up to the rest of them, sighing out off contentment when she would find a perfect warm spot, had him intrigued.
For the past one hour, he had not been able to tear his gaze away from her face. She had come barging into his life and in a couple of hours had ended up disrupting the little stability he had found over the years. He stared at her, trying to find answers to his questions. What was it about her, that had him so at peace yet, restless? Why, even after not wanting to, was he being pulled towards her?
Suddenly Shehnaaz moved and Sidharth watched as she tossed and twisted in her sleep, letting out a whine as she pulled his duvet closer with one hand, while the other reached out, aimlessly wandering on the mattress as she searched for something. Sidharth sat still, trying to decipher what she was searching for. After a few seconds, when she did not find what she was looking for, her forehead furrowed, and she let out a small whimper.
The second Sidharth heard her whimper, he sprung up from the couch, quickly walking over to where she laid and got in the duvet from behind her. He sat on the mattress, leaning with his back to the wall as he pulled her figure closer to his.
"Shhh..." He whispered as he gently ran his fingers through her hair. Shehnaaz let out another whimper as she turned around, upon feeling warmth behind her and snuggled up against Sidharth's thigh, whimpering again.
"Shhhhh, sweethearth, kuch nahi huwa...soja...." He whispered again as one of his hands ran through her hair while the other rubbed her back lightly. The minute Shehnaaz leaned into Sidharth, her restlessness stopped. It seemed like Shehnaaz had found what she was looking for as she snuggled closer against him, if that was even possible, letting out a mixture of a cooing and sighing sound as she settled down.
