PART 1
GROWING UPATTICUS
"Once you've read chapters 1-3, please answer the questions on the paper I passed out at the beginning of class. Have a good weekend."
That's all that needed to be said for the class to erupt with chatter.
Atticus rolled her hazel eyes as she slowly packed up her bag. She wanted everyone out of the class before she left so she didn't have to fight to get out of the room.
As she began to make her way to the door to leave she always stopped short as the professor's voice caught her attention.
"Ms. King," He called out. She turned towards him to see an unpleasant look resting on his face.
"I would like to speak with you."
'Oh shit, here we go'

"A C?! Why the hell would he give me a C?!" The curly hair brunette roared out in rage to her redhead roommate.
"I-I mean, what else could I have said?! There's only so much you can say on the history of The New World! What does he expect me to do? Go travel back in time or something?!" Her hazel eyes flared with rage as her body felt like it was on fire.
"Atti, calm down. It's only one grade. Plus it's not that bad of a grade for a history essay anyways." The red head replied as she watched her curly headed friend pace in front of their living room couch.
Atticus stopped and turned towards her friend as she spoke, "Amelia, that's not the point."
Amelia scrunched up her eyebrows in confusion as she asked, "Then what is?"
"The point is, is that he's been targeting me all year! Every little thing I do! He always finds a crack in the fountain! It just pisses me off!" Atticus could feel her hands start to shake. She quickly fisted them to calm herself down.
"Maybe he's sexist?" Amelia asked as she leaned back into the burgundy couch.
Atticus quirked an eyebrow at her as she took in what she said.
Amelia giggled as she rolled her green eyes at her friend.
"Anyways, what are you doing tonight?" She asked as Atticus walked toward the gray cushioned chair that was placed to the left of the couch.
"I have to work tonight." She huffed out as she sat down in the chair.
"Seriously? I thought you had Fridays off?" Amelia asked the girl next to her.
"I do but Donny isn't going to be able to come in tonight so I have to go in." Atticus replied as she looked over the history essay that was in her hands.
Amelia let out a groan as she threw her head back against the back of the couch in annoyance.
"Why can't you call in and say you're busy or something?" She asked while looking towards her friend. Atticus rolled her eyes at friend's request.
"Because Elia, it doesn't work like that."
"Why not?"
"Because, I've said I would work tonight. Plus they're going to pay for overtime for this."
Amelia let out a huff at her friend's response. Atticus giggled as she stood up to go towards her bedroom while asking,
"Why do you want me to stay home so bad huh?"
"Because..."
Atticus stopped in her tracks and turned to face the redhead.
"Because why?"
The redhead let out a breath before she spoke,
"Ok, so there's this open mic thing they have at the club down the street. Ya know, Caeles."
Atticus knew where she was talking about. Caeles. It was a Latin word that meant heavenly. But the place was anything but heavenly.
Atticus nodded her head in a way of telling her friend to continue.
"Yeah so anyways, and I was wondering if maybe you would come with Dylan and I to the open mic thing?" Amelia sucked in a breath as she waited for her friend to respond.
"I can't." Was all she got.
Amelia deflated slightly as she watched Atticus turn her back and continue to her bedroom. But Amelia wasn't giving up just yet.
She quickly jumped off the couch and jogged to catch up with her friend.
Once she had reached her best friend's room, she watched as Atticus began to look for something to wear to work.
"If its because of Ca-"
Amelia was cut short as Atticus quickly responded,"No Amelia it isn't because of him."
Amelia rolled her eyes before she spoke,
"If it isn't because of him, then why haven't you gone with Dylan and I the other times that we've asked?"Atticus spun around with a face of annoyance, "Because Amelia, I have to work sometimes when y'all ask. I can't just drop everything to go to a club with y'all."
Atticus let out a sigh as she turned back towards her closet.
"You used to." Amelia replied as she leaned on the doorframe to her best friend's room. Atticus looked at Amelia with annoyed eyes before she turned her attention back to her clothes as she responded,
"Yeah, that was before I grew up."
