I look Ava dead in the eyes, pull out my own Taser, and zap myself. "See, I told you nothing happens!" We've been arguing about this for the past five minutes now, so I gave up and showed her. I put it away as she stares shocked at me. "Are you one of those people that can swallow swords and fire and stuff?" I laugh. "Now you're talking like a crazy person! Humans can't do that, that's all special effects and mind tricks. You're 17 and still believe that crap?!!" She freezes. "How did you know how old I was?" "Easy. You live with your so called 'dad' and you're in highschool. Wait, are those what I think it is?" I look at her arm and there's familiar claw marks and bruises on it. She quickly covers it with her backpack. "I fell down running at the park." "Mmhm, and what scratched you up like that? Couldn't have been the concrete, those are claw marks. It's beating you, isn't it." I said it as a statement. That's how we get our prey. Knock them around, make them so weak they can't fight us off when we decide to eat them. Well, not me. Not after the day I keep in the back of my mind and in my pocket. I reflexively go in my pocket and feel for the ring. I look over at Ava and she's staring at the ground. "Just so you know, I'm not letting you go home. I will be packing your things while he's off at the casino today. I'll show you where my house is." "So you're kidnapping me?" "Not exactly. You're free to leave any time you want, just not to his house." I pull a piece of paper out of my pocket and pluck the pen from behind my ear and write a note on it, then give it to her. She reads it, and her eyes widen. " A suicide note?!! Why am I giving this to my principal, and how did you know her name?" "She used to be the librarian at my school, and I do my research." "RESEARCH?! What do you-" "Not the time for questioning. At the end of the day, you're going to leave the note in her mailbox and leave. I will be in the alley over there." I point to the store and laundromat across the street, which is one block from the school. "I have a dead body I found not too long ago. It was fresh from the smell of it. I will bring it to the house, pour gasoline everywhere, especially on the body, and light it up. Everything that belongs to you will be saved. Sadly, that bastard can't be in the house, so we'll have to find another way to get rid of him, preferably in his true form. You will be outside but out of sight from any prying eyes when I light it up. As the note says, you burned your house down with you in it because your father was abusing you and you couldn't take it anymore, which is basically true. You're taking chances with a guy you met on the street and is technically kidnapping you without kidnapping you and you don't care because it's better than... well, getting eaten alive by a monster from the depths of hell. Except I didn't put that part because it's not something the average person will believe." "So what after the burning of the house with the questionable dead body in it?" "We'll figure that out when we get there, 'kay? Now, don't freak out, but I'm about to teleport to your house. Have a good day at school" I smap my fingers dramatically and teleport to her house through her memories of the house. 225 North Hampton St. I teleport back because I know she's freaking out. "What did I say! You're going to attract people's attention, then I can't teleport, for the good ol' FBI's sake." She's clearly freaked out by the fact I wasn't joking this whole time.
