The nightmare I had made me wake up gasping for air. The sweat from my body had made my bed wet as I carried on breathing heavy. When my breathing had finally stabilized I looked around my room to see if I was still living the nightmare. It finally registered in my mind that I was at I wasn’t at home. I was in a foreign environment. I suddenly felt alert as I looked around trying to find a clue to explain where I was.
“Hello” I called out since I could hear movement from outside. I heard a key then the door opened. I blinked a couple times to adapt my eyes to the light from outside then I saw an officer
“Finally you are awake” I stared at her confused
“Why I am here?”
“You got into a fight and we got called in. When we finally separated the fight and brought you here, you had fallen asleep before we could find out much about you and you didn’t have any ID on you. So we decided to let you sleep in the cell till you wake up” I nodded slowing understanding what she was saying
“Are you ready to tell me your name?”
“Shauney Davis” She wrote it down. She made me follow her and go through some procedures
“Well you are free to go” I nodded as I she returned my phone to me. I smiled at her as I walked out of the police station. The wind hit me as I walked to the bus stop. I felt like a convict. I just wanted to get home and get cleaned up. I switched on my phone and waited for it to load up. By the time it had loaded up, the way my phone just kept vibrating. I saw it was mostly from mum and Junior. I sighed as I carried on walking and placed my phone into the back pocket of my jeans. I held my head low as carried on walking back to the house.

“Where the fuck have you been Shauney?” I looked up shocked at the fact she was swearing. In fact I was more shocked that she was swearing at me, I’m used to hearing her swear at other people but never me.
“I was in a prison cell” Her face dropped and soon her hands landed on her head. At that moment I felt so low. I just felt like I had disappointed the one person who believed in me when no one else did.
“What the FUCK? WHY?” She screamed as she paced up and down the corridor.
“Got into a fight. Can’t remember the rest” I admitted. The look she gave me just wanted me to jump off a skyscraper.
“You don’t remember anything” I shook my head. Before I could even defend myself she just walked out of the house. I was shocked. She didn’t even say anything; she just walked out and slammed the door behind her. I would be lying if I said that didn’t hurt. I just wanted straight into my room and into my bathroom room. As I ran my bath I tried to remember last night but I couldn’t. It just came back into my mind as fragments. I sighed in frustration as I stripped and sunk into the bathtub.

“So you seriously can’t remember anything that happened yesterday?” I looked at Junior feeling tempted to throw the xbox controller at his head. From the smirk on his face I knew he knew what was going through my mind
“Sorry was just checking, me and mum were so worried last night. She could barely sleep” What a way to make me feel better
“Since she has come home she hasn’t spoken to me you know. I tried to start a conversation but its like my name is casper the ghost. She just walked past me and acted like I wasn’t in the room with her, speaking.” He chuckled but it was far from funny
“I even tapped her repeatedly and she didn’t retaliate. You and I both know how much she hates being tapped, so for the fact she didn’t even push me away from her shows me how annoyed she must be at me” He paused the game and looked at me
“Give her time, let her cool down then approach her. I’ve experienced this so many times and the more you try to talk to her the longer it will take for her to want to talk to you. So just leave it for now” He chuckled and I nodded. I didn’t want to drop it though. I wanted it to be sorted out now, but he knew how his mum operated so I had to just listen and accept what he had just said.
***
“Where are you going?” I looked back at her in shock. It was the first few words she had said to be in two weeks. Yes, she had managed to not speak to me for two weeks and it was annoying. But at least she still cooked for me. When she called down Junior to get his food, she gave him my food as well. I still remember the time she gave Junior a cookie to eat because he decided to call her on her phone to bring him up food. I chuckled inwardly before replying to her question
“I need to sort out some stuff in college” She nodded before dropping the stack of paper she had been holding in her hand
“Do you want a lift?” I looked down at my phone to see the time. Her dropping me would have meant that I wouldn’t be late
“If you don’t mind” She stood up and rummaged through her bag before retrieving her keys and her phone.
“Let’s go” I quickly followed behind her before she changed her mind. The fact alone that she was talking to me was making me smile. I missed our pointless conversations and hearing her laughter especially when I was the one who caused her to laugh and smile. I opened the door to her car and got in.
“I’m sorry” I randomly said. The silence was killing me. She slowly pulled off the road and packed up her car
“You seriously disappointed me that day. I don’t even know why, I know you have probably done worse but I felt that you were making improvements. I felt like that little boy was developing into a man and learning from his previous mistakes. That is why it affected me as much as I did. I wasn’t just because you got arrested. It is also because you shattered the hope I had for you. Shauney darling, you can do so much more with your life. You need to let go of all this pent up anger. It is not good. You need to forget your past and move on. Yes I understand your past may have made you into the person you are today but it doesn’t need to dictate the person you will be in the future.” She looked at me as if she wanted to check whether her words were sinking into my head and they were. I felt worse than I did when she stop talking to me. Now that I knew why she was so upset and refused to speak to me made me feel crap. I never wanted to disappoint her but I guess I had. She was right though. I had too much anger in me that needed to go. It just took someone to irritate me to a point then I’ll explode. I sighed and looked outside the window; the eye contact was killing me
“That is why I couldn’t speak to you. I didn’t want to release my anger on you.” I nodded but carried on looking outside the window. I heard the ignition start and soon the car began moving
“I didn’t mean to make you feel like that. You are the last person I want to disappoint” I replied honestly. I heard her sigh
“I know darling. I know you didn’t mean it” She leaned over to me and turned my face so I was facing her
“Just make me proud” I nodded. She smiled and kissed my forehead making me smile. I was happy all the tension was gone and that she was finally talking to me. From there, the conversation flowed and we were just laughing with each other. We soon arrived at my college
“I’ll see you later”
“Bye, be safe” I winked at her causing her to laugh, as I walked into the building I heard her car drive off.
