"Are you ready?" Ruby asked as soon as I opened the front door.
"As ready as you are." I sighed, rolling my eyes and throwing my bag over my shoulder, ready for the day ahead of me - school.
"Our first exams today, are you nervous?" Ruby questioned, her voice wobbling like she was already nervous.
"To be honest, I'm not that scared." I chuckled. "I always thought that I would be crying and so scared to go in but I'm not bothered."
"Well, lucky you." Ruby laughed along with me. "I'm shitting my knickers, I'm so scared."
"You'll do fine, don't worry." I said calmly, taking hold of her hand closest to me to reassure her.
"But what if I don't?" she asked after a minute of silence and we turned a left of the street.
"What?"
"What if August comes so quickly, after we've had our weeks and weeks off, and I've failed?" Ruby questioned. She looked towards me and fear covered her face: her eye were wide, her eyebrows were furrowed and her lips were dry.
"Don't think negative, think positive."
"It's kind of hard do that when you know that there's a fifty percent chance you've failed or passed."
"Yes, but let's not try and think that way." I chuckled again. "Let's just pass these damn tests and get on with our lives."
"Okay." Ruby sighed, shaking her head and loosening my hand that was in hers.
We turned and walked in through the school gates and down towards the school doors. my phone vibrated before I entered the school so I pulled it out and read the message (we are not allowed phone in school because they 'wreck your education').
1 message - unknown
Good luck today xI furrowed my eyebrows as I starred back at my phone screen.
"Who's that?" Ruby asked, looking over my shoulder at my phone, reading the message.
I hesitated before answering, "I don't know..."
"Well, that's strange." Ruby chuckled as we entered the school doors. "I'll see you in the exam hall."
"Good luck." I called after her.
"You too." she called back, just as loud as I did.
-
"Everyone, please put your pens, pencils and any equipment down, the hour is up and you have now completed your English exam." the examiner spoke in a loud and clear voice to everyone in the hall. That was our final exam and now, finally, we all get to leave school and come back in a few months for our results.
Minutes passed and the hall was getting emptied row by row to stop chaos as everyone left through the same door.
"How did you find it?" I asked Ruby as our row got dismissed.
"English Language...easy. English Literature, I've failed." she answered picking up her bag. "What about you?"
"Same as you but I think I've failed them both." I slightly laughed as we exited the hall. Turning to my left I saw a figure standing with their back against the wall.
"Anna." he called, grabbing my attention even more.
"Dylan." I smiled as I skipped over to him and then collapsed in his arms into a tight hug.
"How did it go?" he asked as we pulled apart.
"Okay...ish."
"Good because I've got a surprise for you." he grinned.
"I'll let you two go then. Anna, I'll text you later." Ruby announced and I nodded for my answer as Dylan and I began to walk away together.
"What's the surprise?" I asked as we walked hand in hand towards his car.
"It's called a surprise for a reason, Anna." Dylan slightly chuckled and I moaned in response.
"Come on, just tell me." I overly grinned to be cute.
"No, it's a surprise-" Dylan was cut short when someone interrupted him.
"Anna!" a boys voice exclaimed.
I looked to might right to see a tall boy with blonde hair running my way.
"Kyle." I shouted back and pulled out of Dylan's hand. I ran to Kyle and fell into his arms.
"I haven't seen you in years!" he exclaimed even more.
"It's only been a few months." I giggled. The last time I seen Kyle was my 16th birthday.
Kyle, Ruby and I were best friends in primary and the start of high school but then his dad got a career abroad so he had to move away to Spain. Only now and again he gets to come home and see the rest of this family and friends.
"How's Spain?" I asked, still in shock to see him.
"It's amazing." he answered. "It's so hot over there compared to here."
"I can tell, you're so tanned!" I giggled. "I'm so jealous."
"I know how much you love being tanned, Anna." he smirked and laughed. He looked towards Dylan and squinted his eyes a little. "Dylan?"
Dylan just nodded instead of answering and looked back at him with intent.
"Oh Dylan, Kyle you know Dylan, my boyfriend."
"Your boyfriend?" he asked in a shock kind of tone and I nodded.
"Kyle, I'm sorry but we're going to have to go, he's planned something." I smiled before we said our goodbyes and we left each other.
Dylan grabbed my wrist in a tight grip and pulled me all the way to his car.
"What's he doing back?"
"He comes back to see his family and friend." I answered Dylan's question.
"Why's he coming to see you?"
"Dylan, I'm one of his friends, his best friends in fact."
"I don't want you seeing him!" Dylan's voice raised a little as he slammed the car door shut.
I sat in the passenger seat, looking back at Dylan. His eyes were hungry with envy and his cheeks were bright red. I swallowed back before saying something.
"I'm sorry." I whimpered.
"You will be." he said back harshly as he started the car and drove out of the school car park.
"Where are we going for the surprise then?" I asked trying to smooth Dylan and change the subject.
"No where, were going to mine, you don't deserve one now!"
