Izuku felt terrible about not being able to help his mom take care of Eri during the week he 'had the flu'. Sure, Katsuki was taking the time to do it in his absence but Izuku felt a big responsibility on him.
He's the one that wanted to help this girl, and he hasn't done a lot. All he did was save her from the Yakuza and gave her a temporary home. To him, that was nowhere near enough.
The least he felt he could do was buy her food, clothes, and toys. Even then, still wasn't good enough to him. He knew the only way to make this little girl truly happy was to find a home that would be hers forever.
"Izuku, you can't keep beating yourself up over that. You saved the girl's life. I'm sure she doesn't hate you because you weren't able to visit her. You needed time to heal. If anything, she would have felt bad seeing how much pain you were in. Might even blame herself for it." Katsuki reassured his boyfriend as he looked through the produce aisle, picking out only the freshest assortment of foods.
"I guess you're right. She did blame herself for us getting caught by the Shie Hassaikai. That would just add fuel to the fire."
"Probably not the best idiom to use." Katsuki looked over to Izuku's arm. It was covered but he remembered every detail of that burn.
"S-Sorry. I didn't think about it like that."
Izuku and Katsuki continued to shop for food. Izuku wanted to start helping his mother make proper meals for Eri but the only thing he knew how to make was baked goods. Anytime Izuku tried to help make dinner, it ended up being a disaster. Thank All Might that he knew Katsuki, who happened to be the best cook he ever met. Just don't let Inko find out.
Izuku wasn't the best at picking out the best ingredients either. Katsuki kept lecturing him on what to look for and how the best produce should feel. He was really glad Katsuki came along to help, not knowing the blond was also there to keep an eye on him. Izuku may be healed but he wasn't getting hurt on Katsuki's watch.
"Hey, Zuku! Is that the boyfriend you told me about a few months ago?" Keigo walked over to the couple after recognizing Izuku. It wasn't hard as he was the only person around with naturally green hair.
"A few months ago?" Katsuki lifted a brow at Izuku.
Izuku replayed a memory in his head.
"Where are my manners? I meant I didn't know you had a boyfriend."
"No, I... Yeah, sure."
Then he panicked.
Why did I agree to that!?
He suddenly felt the stare of Katsuki behind him, his crimson eyes melting the back of his head.
"Did you have a boyfriend before me, Deku?"
"W-What!? Of course not! You're the only person I've ever dated! I swear!" Izuku panicked, turning his attention to Keigo, "K-Keigo, did you need something?"
"Nah, not really. I just remembered you mentioning a boyfriend a while back so I figured with how close you two were being, I had a feeling this was the guy."
Izuku could still feel the tension coming from Katsuki, "Y-Yep! Kacchan is my boyfriend! B-But, it wasn't a few months ago, we started dating a few weeks ago!"
"Oh, my bad! Time seems to be moving by so fast it must have felt like it's been months! Glad to see you happy with someone for a change though! Proud of you, little buddy!" Keigo winked with a smirk, heading back to his register near the front of the store.
"S-See, Kacchan? He just made a mistake. Even if I did date someone before you, it wouldn't matter since I chose you now, don't you think?"
"Yeah. I just wanna make sure I'm your first for everything."
