end of august 2019

valencia sat on the velvet green couch alongside her fiancé alex, her right leg crossed over her left with her arms slightly crossed over as they rested against her crossed over legs. her dad's funeral had been over close to an hour when the immediate family and spn cast all sat together in silence. it wasn't that no one wanted to stay silent, of course, they didn't. they just didn't know what to talk about. who would know what to talk about after an event as downcast, morbid and melancholy as a funeral of a parent and very well-loved and mind-bending film and tv show director? however, it seemed as if rylee couldn't handle the silence any longer and decided to break it by speaking up.

"...why do i feel like dad would try to say a joke to make everyone smile and laugh?" rylee spoke up, everyone moving their attention over to her as valencia smiled at her older sister

"now rylee, the question is, what joke would he tell? he had loads of jokes that he'd use in a situation like this but it has to be perfect," valencia spoke up with a tugging smile on her lips, rylee giving her younger sister a small smile as they maintained eye contact

"so, which one?" rylee responds as valencia smirks, the joke needed to be absurd and utterly hilarious because it would have to make every single person laugh or at least smile

and that was because dale didn't like seeing others sad so, it was obvious for valencia the joke that she needed to do right now.

"i'd say one of his specalist jokes," valencia smiled again as she took a gulp of her whiskey and bailey's before remembering the joke which made her laugh due to forgetting how dirty and inappropriate the joke was

"what's the difference between hungry and horny? where you stick the cucumber..." valencia spoke as she smiled, trying to hold her giggles in before everyone else as they all reacted

everyone started laughing at valencia's joke. it now seemed as though all the emotional tension and stress had now seeped away. rylee was now telling a stupid joke that really wasn't supposed to be funny but the way she executed the joke was the reason why the room erupted into giggles again.

"...jesus christ, that joke was so stupid, rylee!" ryan spoke up with a small giggle as he shook his head which made rylee giggle as she nodded her head in agreement

"i know it was!" she giggles out as valencia shakes her head at her older sister as she then made eye contact with alex, who at this point, was still relatively quiet

"you okay, darling?" valencia whispered to her fiancé, caressing her hand against his thigh as he then looked over at her

"hmm?" alex mumbled, for he had been in his own little world and wasn't paying any mind or attention to anything else, valencia smiling softly

"i asked if you were alright, angel?" valencia asked again as alex smiled before nodding his head, resting it against her shoulder

"yeah, i'm okay," he softly responded which was all valencia needed to know that he was okay

"i think we'll be leaving soon so if you are uncomfortable, it'll be over soon," valencia responded, knowing that things like this really made alex uncomfortable as he smiled
