One night soon turned into two, which soon turned into three and so on.

Mitch had surprisingly warmed up to Vikk and now, instead of ignoring him, he would grumble some sort of adequate response and in between those he would nag everyone else to go back to the kingdom.

He had claimed that he was going to go back whether they came or not but he was still yet to leave. Even though he knew that Jerome would come with him, no matter how much he refused, he was still skeptic and slightly scared. He was scared of what his father would do.

He'd always been scared of his father but he had never shown it purposely because that would make him look weak and he wasn't weak. He was brave and powerful.

Somehow, he has no idea, the guys agree to go with him eventually and Mitch suspects that Vikk has something to do with it.

-----------------

"This is so not worth it." Jerome mutters, walking through the lower streets of the kingdom. Surprisingly none of them had been noticed yet because all of them had stupidly decided not to wear some sort of hood. Mainly because Vikk was the only one with a hood and refused to take it off.

"Not for you, maybe, but we have family here." Lachlan whispers, sneakily snatching an apple from the stall next to them and taking a big bite from it. He sighs because he has been living off berries and weird fruits for the last couple of weeks and he didn't know if he trusted Vikk enough when he assured them they weren't poisonous.

"Just shut up, keep your head down and keep walking." An exasperated Mitch snaps and they do carry on going. Lachlan stops five minutes later and realises that Vikk is still down the street, talking to a women on a stand.

He watches them carefully as Vikk's eyes go from being filled with confusion and relief to anger and betrayal. It's a nasty switch and Lachlan wants to know why so he strains to hear what they're saying.

"I can't believe you, I really can't." Vikk's voice is quiet but he gets louder and turns to shouting.

"My family trusted you!" He bangs his fists loudly against the table of the stall and Lachlan starts rushing forward.

"For all I know, they're dead and it's your fault! How dare you? My sister, she was three years old! Three!"

When Lachlan reaches them he sees that the women is middle aged and is wearing a scruffy brown dress with a white garment underneath. She looks upset and guilty.

"Vikk, come on. We have to go." Lachlan puts his hand on Vikk's shoulder and he spins round, his eyes glowing a frightening, blinding blue that causes everyone in the street to gasp and stare.

"She killed my family." He shouts in Lachlan's face and he jerks back with how close the other is.

Lachlan stares briefly at the women and wonders how such a petit and fragile women could kill a king, queen and princess.

"Okay," he says, his eyes not straying from the women, "People are staring though, we need to get to the castle."

Vikk finally submits and allows himself to be dragged a couple steps up the road before he turns back.

"Do you know where Althalos is?" He inquires and the women sadly shakes her head.

Vikk can tell she is lying but gives in. He doesn't have the time or energy for this.

-----------------

"I wish for an audience with the king." Mitch declares, walking up to the guards at the gate to the castle.

Both of them quickly realise who it is and nod. They begin to lead everyone inside and on the way many people stare at them.

Vikk earns himself a smack from a maid Lachlan knows well when he tries to steal a fresh loaf of bread from her tray.

He wasn't even hungry, he just wanted some fun. Life was boring in the forest, now he was around actual people he could let go a little.

-----------------

"How dare you come back here? After you defended elementals and killed two guards!" The king booms, his voice echoing off the walls of the throne room.

Vikk has a grimace on his face. He briefly remembers an encounter with this man when he was four years old. He doesn't remember much of it, just that he had met him.

"How can you say it like they're animals? You seem to forget that I'm one of them." Mitch seethes, his teeth gritted and his eyes momentary darting to his shocked looking brother's face.

"I had hope for you, son. I thought you saw like me, that this is an illness and you need help. We can get you help, all of you." His tone is softer but none of them are fooled.

Lachlan has come to notice that Vikk is very hot headed and the way he steps forward to speak just confirms it.

"My father used to say that it's people like you who will kill the human race. The only people you accept are people who think like you but if you were one of us, you would understand why you are so wrong. And to condemn your own son to a life in a forest," he took more steps forward, as far towards the king as he could until the guards stopped him, "is possibly the worst thing you could do."

He glares straight at the king, who seems unphased, until Vikk's eyes start to glow a deep blue with small flecks of gold, then his eyes widen and he stands up.

He takes long strides from his throne to where Vikk is being held back by the guards, none of hush newfound friends doing anything to stop him.

"And you are?" The king asks, looking down at the boy with a disgusted look on his face.

Vikk doesn't at all feel intimidated.

"Vikk." He states, bluntly staring up through his fringe and refusing to tone down his glare.

The king reaches forward and tugs down the scarf around his neck to reveal the scars dancing harshly across his face.

"Why are you so bitter, boy?" The king brushes his fingers across a couple scars, his smile menacing, "You have so much life ahead of you."

The king is teasing him now and he hates it.

"I have spent the last seven years of my life living in a forest because of people like you. My family is dead because of people like you. My kingdom is dead because of people like you!" He shouts, making sure to spit at him afterwards.

"Your kingdom? And what kingdom might that be?"

"Aeronthorpe."

The king laughs a loud and mocking laugh that causes Vikk to grimace even more.

"Aeronthorpe? There is no such place anymore, there hasn't been for ten years."

Vikk pulls himself from the guards' grip and begins walking towards the doors.

He had had enough of this vile man.
