The ocean breeze gently swept the streets of Napoli, the sun shining brightly, illuminating everything it touched.
The traffic went about as it pleased, pedestrians flooding the sidewalks. Mafiosi hung around in the alleyways, waiting for orders or doing whatever they wanted. And the boy with hair the same bright color as the sun in the sky went around helping whoever he thought needed it.
His name was Elio Giovanna. His mother, a singing sensation. His father, the most powerful man in Italy. For someone having grown up near the spotlight and close to the dangerous mafia world, you'd believe he would be a more self-absorbed or dangerous person. Unlike what most people would think hearing about him for the first time, Elio had a heart of gold. He would look for the best in everyone and would try to help anybody that asked. He was a kind young man, and the people who knew him loved him for it.
He'd spend his afternoons roaming Napoli's streets if he had the time, and he'd grab himself a gelato afterwards if he felt like it.
Elio went about his usual routine. Stroll about the town, lend a hand, and stop by the gelato stand. Today was a little different however. When he got to the stand, he spotted a familiar face leaning against it. Her name was Giulia Mista, his best friend.
"Giulia? Fancy meeting you here." He greeted her.
Giulia glanced in his direction, munching on a lollipop. "'Fancy meeting you too." She replied. Before he could say anything else, Giulia spoke again. "Listen, Bucciarati's looking for the two of us, and he asked me to come and look for you. I dunno what he wants, though." She informed him. Elio looked at her, confused. "Bucciarati? It's kinda funny for you of all people to call Vin by his last name." Giulia rolled her eyes. "He pissed me off earlier, so he's just Bucciarati for now. Walk with me?" She answered, moving from her spot against the gelato stand. She started walking off down the road, Elio following her.
Giulia looked around to make sure nobody else was listening, and walked up to Elio and whispered in his ear. "Did you hear about those guys that my pops caught selling drugs? Y'know, that group from Rome?" She whispered. Elio shook his head. "Well, it turns out they were double agents for this other mafia group. I have no idea what they're called, but I've heard the boss is pretty powerful. I think Bucciarati might've heard something about it, and that's why he's calling the meeting." She added. Elio's eyes went wide. "You're kidding. Double agents?" He asked, surprised. Giulia nodded. "I was surprised too."
Passione was one of the largest crime syndicates in the country. They had groups located just about everywhere, but a good majority of them could be found in Napoli, where they had all the control. They mainly had control over restaurants and businesses and had several teams meant for different things: Assassinations, escorting people, gambling, the works. There used to be some involvement in the drug trade, at least until around 30 years ago, when the current boss took over. Since then, there has been a strict no drugs policy. Anyone caught selling drugs, no matter who they were being sold to, would be ostracized from Passione and considered dead to the famiglia. Traitors were another thing entirely. Depending on how severe the betrayal was, a lot of cases would result in the death of said traitors.
Elio shuddered at the thought of what might've happened. He shook his head. "We should probably keep going, I don't wanna keep Vin waiting." He told Giulia. She sighed. "You're right, we should keep going."
The two went off to the usual spot. "...By the way, what did he do to piss you off earlier?" Elio asked.
"...He stole my hat."
Elio laughed. "Seriously? That's what you're mad about?" Giulia glared at him. "You know how important this thing is to me, Lio! Where the hell else am I supposed to keep my candy stash?" She yelled. Elio kept laughing. "Sorry, sorry!"
They approached the restaurant they called home base, and for good reason. It had been used by Elio's dad and Giulia's dads back when the old boss was still in charge, and it was in surprisingly good condition, despite how old it was.
Elio and Giulia walked in and headed for the private section. Waiting for them sat two people; Vincenzo Bucciarati and Fibonacci Fugo.
Vincenzo drummed his fingers on the table. "...You're late." He said, coldly. Elio gulped. "Sorry about that, we got a little sidetracked." He apologized. Vincenzo rolled his eyes. He brushed some hair out of his face and glared at them. "You know I don't like to be kept waiting, especially if I've got some important shit to tell you."
Fibonacci put a hand on his shoulder. "Calm down, V. They're not that late, it's only been five minutes." They reminded him. Vincenzo sighed. Elio and Giulia took their seats at the table. The gang sat in silence for a bit. Elio cleared his throat. "So, um... What did you need us here for?" He asked. "I'm gonna assume Giulia already told you about those traitors." Vincenzo started. Elio gave him a nod. "She said it more like double agents, but whatever floats your boat." He corrected him. Vincenzo rolled his eyes. "WHATEVER they are, you know about them, so that's one less thing I have to explain to you." He continued.
"Anyways, I found out some stuff about them. If my intuition is correct, which it normally is, they've got themselves a little spot down in Venezia. Could be their base, could be just a little hideaway for the stronzos that do business there." Everybody looked at him surprised. "You're kidding. You're joking. That's a hell of a lie, V. Are you really sure?" Fibonacci asked. Vincenzo nodded. "I found another one of them hanging out around my normal spot, so I beat the shit out of him and got some useful information out of him. There ain't too many cities around here full of water, right?" He answered, smiling proudly.
Giulia raised an eyebrow. "So, what are we gonna do, oh fearless leader?" She asked. "Well, I was thinking..." Vincenzo started, but before he could continue, there was a loud crash sound out front.
And with it, a stand user they'd never seen before.
