I was up early the next morning, eager to get ready for the quarry. I shaved first in the shower, then did my skincare, and then put on some waterproof mascara. The last chore I accomplished was selecting the bra and underwear I would wear. I was going to wear my white lace bra, but I was worried about what Richie would think, so I settled with my basic black bra instead. I just threw on some shorts and a white and blue striped crop top, not giving much thought to the rest of my wardrobe. I informed the boys that they could leave without me because I lived close to the quarry and could easily walk there on my own.

I dashed down my stairs and into the kitchen, where I grabbed a green apple. My mother had gone back to work, so the house was deserted. She was going to be gone for the next 24 hours, so I was home alone. I took a pop tart from the refrigerator and put it in the toaster. I slid up onto the kitchen bench and turned on the radio, to my surprise it was playing the Smiths' "This Charming Man," which I began to hum along to. I heard a knock at the door as I was doing so. I raced to open it, and there stood Richie, beaming, in front of me. "Hello, my lady!" he said as he walked in. "It's great to see you, Richie." I walked back into the kitchen, closing the door behind me.
As he scented the air, he wondered, "what's cooking?"
"Pop-Tarts!" i said.
"Oh, and 'this charming man,' whoa, an excellent song choice." He went on to say as he hopped up onto my bench and dangled his legs over the counter.

"so yesterday...i noticed you got a little jealous about billy boy and beverly." richie stated. i rolled my eyes and chose to reply honestly, seeming he is my best friend. "well i guess, i don't know why i should be over bill by now. he hasn't made a move. i haven't made a move. it is honestly hopeless at this point." i sighed down at my pop tart.
"don't give up now, he was talking about you last night in the all-boys channel. saying how nice you looked and how brave you were." richie sounded truthful and serious for the first time so i slowly nodded. "i bet i wasn't the only girl he was talking about." i mumbled. richie didn't reply and i looked up to see a sympathetic look on his face. "well, shit." i put my pop tarts down and hoped off the countertop.
"i think he just needed to get over his childhood crush." richie prompted trying to make the situation better.
"I WASN'T HIS CHILDHOOD CRUSH!?" i yelled now seriously anxious.
"i mean you were one of them.." again richie was not helping.
"ONE!? HOW FUCKING MANY WHERE THERE!?" i flipped-

*knock, knock*. "i wonder who the fuck that could be?" i rolled my eyes and hit the counter as richie jumped down i went to open the door.
"well speak of the devil!" richie laughed as bill walked in sorta confused.
"h-hey guys?!..." bill nervously spoke. "you all ready to go?" i nodded in reply trying my best to avoid eye contact and grabbed my bag. ready to head off to the quarry.

"you want to ride on my bike steven?" bill asked. in reply, i shook my head and hopped on the back of richie's instead. bill was in a bad mood the rest of the ride but so was i, angry that he liked someone else, angry that I wasn't good enough but most of all angry that we'll never be together.

"his last batting. he brushed the post. wade Booggs, of course, leads the league in such long shots. this is what you did. this is what...do it! oh my god!" richie called as he, eddie, bill, ben and stanley lined up along the edge of the quarry cliff. "piece of cake." stan announced to everyone as has spat pretty far. "so easy!" bill replied spitting even better. i always thought their spitting competition was stupid so no matter how many times they offered i always chose not to participate. "oh my god, that was terrible. i win." richie shook his fists at eddie's horrible loogie.
"you won?" eddie scoffed.
"Yeah?!" richie said surprised. "did you see my loogie, it went the farthest.
"it's about distance. it's mass." eddie rolled his eyes in annoyance.
"what the fuck is mass? it doesn't matter how far it goes.it's how cool it looks, and if it's green or it's white." richie told eddie. i turned away from the bickering boys and removed my black shorts and striped crop top, revealing my black bra. i placed my stuff next to the bikes and headed over to the boys. i felt a flood of nervousness wash over me as i saw the swaying river many feet below me, "Alright. Who's first?" stan asked as a small giggle came from behind him; "steven and i will go." beverly marsh's voice said as the girl grabbed onto my hand and pulled me off the cliff. "Sissies!" she yelled as we tumbled off the cliff. i felt free, freedom i had never felt before; i let out a sigh of relief and with that, i hit the refreshing water my fingers still intertwined with beverly's.

the music from my rusty radio was booming the song 'time after time' one of my favourite songs. i grabbed beverlys hand and started to spin her around singing along to the song. all eyes on us we sang our hearts out; from the corner of my eye, i could see richie pushing bill closer to the both of us. bev let go of my hands a small smirk falling on her face finally catching onto what richie was trying to do. "s-steven," bill said gazing at me. i was still somewhat mad at him but i nodded in response to my name. "want to dance." he questioned as my face burned an uneasy red. i bit the inside of my mouth to keep my smile in check, so happy that he wanted to dance with me. "yeah sure." i replied and on cue the song 'vienna' began to play.

slowly bill rapped his cunning hands around my toned waste directing me side to side. i smirked up at him which he returned. god, i love this boy- he is, after all, my best friend. I rested my head on his shoulder, burrowing into his neck as I swayed my hips to the music's beat. i thought about life, how happy i was but yet at the same time i was so sad. how i had such amazing friends yet i hated them so much. this was the song i use to dance to with my dad when he was around. back when i was younger. before he ruined my life. then, suddenly a single tear streamed out of my eye. "why don't you realise, vienna waits for you." bill and i sang along softly hands now intertwined with one other. i gasped for air as i snapped back into reality. i lifted my head from bills shoulder realising that he had been crying as well. i then looked around to see the losers staring at the both of us eyes wide and mouths hanging open. i looked down, flustered and wiped the tear off my face. "so..." richie trailed off not able to higher his insanely large grin.

later own we all headed into the rocks. beverly and i sunbathed and the boys were talking listening to the song 'bust a move.' i could feel the sun burning in my skin, i was insanely excited for my summer tan to come in. i sat up to change positions for tanning and as i did so
i caught a glimpse of the boys who all shifted in their seats uncomfortably, which wasn't surprising. "News flash, Ben, School's out for summa!" richie spoke from the top of the rocks along with some rustling. i didn't bother to look over but i did open my eyes that were protected by my huge sunglasses. "Oh that, that's not school stuff." ben tried to take his stuff back from richie's claws.
"Who sent you this?" richie asked with no context so i chose to sit up.
"oh-uh No one." ben repulsed going red in the face and putting what seemed to be a postcard back in his bag.
"What's with the history project?" stan asked peering over, which got me interested.
"Oh well, when I first moved here, I really didn't have anyone to hang out with so I just started spending time in the library." ben answered quite embarrassed. "You went to the library? On purpose?" richie snickered which made me hit him as i made my way over, placing myself next to bill. "I wanna see." bev said from next to me.
"What's the Black Spot?" stan questioned,
"The Black Spot was a nightclub that was burned down years ago by-"
"that racist cult." i rinsed Ben's sentence off which drew all attention to me.
"The what?" Eddie gulped going a shade of green.
"Don't you watch Geraldo?" Richie tormented Eddie.
"Y-y-y-y-your hair..." bill said looking past me.
"Your hair looks beautiful. Beverly." ben finished him off which earned a glare from bill and an uneasy feeling from me.
"Oh, hey thanks." Bev smiled, looking at me with sympathy.
"Here, pass," I asked leaning over bill who well, for sure enjoyed it.
"Why's it all murders and missing kids?" Beverly shivered
"Derry's not like any town I've ever been in before. They did a study once... it turns out people die or disappear six times the national average." ben said to a silent crowd. "You read that?" Eddie and stan questioned in sync.
"Not just grown-ups. Kids are like worse way, way worse." Richie and I glanced at each other with cold eyes.
"I've got more stuff if you want to see it." ben added and with resilience from Eddie, we all pack up our things and headed to Ben's house.
