The three walk along the cracked sidewalk in the older neighborhood, following the google maps as it led them to the nearest store; a Walmart. They passed by many cute older houses and came across one with an apple tree.
"Nex, I dare you to take one," Olive said with a mischievous grin
"Yeah Nex, go get one," the dyed red-headed teen teased.
Nex rolled his eyes, running a hand through his black and faded green hair before saying,
"I'm not going to steal an apple from someone's front yard, Erin."
"Hey! Olive started it not me." Erin stated in a faked groan.
Nex chuckled and began walking again, though this time he was in front, having to listen to the other two banter back and forth. They made great progress and were only a minute away from the Walmart. The three stopped joking and spent the last minute in silence as they walked towards the almost full Walmart parking lot. They passed through both sets of massive sliding glass doors before actually making it inside the store. In front of them stood isle upon isle of stuff, now they just needed to find the one with a Roomba vacuum in it.
They wandered aimlessly around the isles, pointing out cute stuffies or funny items. They laughed at each other when they did stupid things and did things dumb teenage boys do. They had finally found where the Roomba vacuums were when a voice spoke over the intercom.
"The store will now be locked and all windows and doors will be sealed. Anyone who is inside, please stay calm as a security guard will come and explain everything to you in detail. The store will now be in lockdown in 3.."
The teenage boys looked at each other in shock before bolting through the hallways with everyone else.
"2.."
They lost each other in the chaos as every person in the store scrambled for the exits.
"1.."
They weren't even close to the doors by the time they started to barricade themselves.
"All store exits are now officially closed and locked. Please do not panic as a security guard will come to you and explain everything. Thank you for cooperating."
Everyone who had not reached the exits stood in complete silence. Everything was quiet for a while until a security guard came and started splitting off small groups of the crowd. The three teenagers turned their attention from getting out to finding each other once again. Of course, it was fairly easy to find Erin as he was tall and a red-head by choice. Both Olive and Nex were able to find their way to him, pushing through the slowly dwindling crowd as they went.
When they met up they were basically in the middle of the crowd, but no one paid attention to that as they were all caught up in their own business. The three teens huddled together before one of them spoke.
"What do you think is going on?"
Then as if on queue a security guard came up to the three of them and herded them into a not-so-crowded part of the main entrance. He stood with his shoulders back and a solemn look upon his face. He towered above the boys, looking down upon them. Before any of the teens got to ask what was going on the security guard answered their question.
"There has been an outbreak of a disease. I'm sure you have heard of it. Well, as it ends up it is actually very contagious and very dangerous. It is a bloodborne disease and the symptoms are not noticeable until its too late for you. This normally ends up with mental instability, which escalates into suicide and on the more serious end of the scale; human sacrifice to a currently unknown "god". You will have to stay here until we eliminate all the infected or find a quick cure."
The boys stood motionless, trying to take everything in. Again, before they could react, the security guard dashed off to gather the next group of people The teens looked at each other in disbelief, this wasn't really happening, was it? Two pandemics in a row? All the boys could do was hope they weren't infected and wait this out.
