I write to make peace with the things I cannot control. I write to create red in a world that often appears black and white. I write to discover. I write to uncover. I write to meet my ghosts. I write to begin a dialogue. I write to imagine things differently and in imagining things differently perhaps the world will change. I write to honor beauty. I write to correspond with my friends. I write as a daily act of improvisation. I write because it creates.my composure. I write against power and for democracy. I write myself out of my nightmares.and into my dreams. I won't tell you that I started writing because I thought I would touch lives and help heal hurting hearts. No, I just had things I wanted to say and experiences I wanted to share. So, here is where I landed. And the more I wrote, the more of you reached out to me and shared your stories with me. And the more I realized that my words of heartfelt expression mattered- That what I had to say actually helped so many of you that it made me cry with happiness sometimes as I read your emails and comments. I never expected to touch so many lives- much less tens of millions of people like I do every month. It's humbling but also rewarding and I hope that all of you keep coming here and sharing the journey with me. We still have a long ways to go and there's much to say, feel and share. And that's exactly what I plan to do. I'll never tell you that I'm the best writer with the best verbiage or fanciest grammar, because that's not who I am. I am real, authentic and just like you. That's exactly who I want to be and I look forward to continuing to walk with each of you, hand in hand, as we traverse this journey of life together. Through the ups and downs, heartaches and happiness, I'll be right there beside you, celebrating and crying with you and all the while, standing strong with you.
