the night approaches like a solid wall
nothing is visible beyond its boundary
imagination paints grim graffiti there
frightened more by what it cannot see
all is quiet for this time lost by reality
I'm sure monsters lurk to devour me
what else waits behind a hidden door
suddenly I hear a raven shriek loudly
heart leaping into a constricted throat
my body must flee the darkened land
I fail because I'm trapped by shadows
drowning in a sea of black quicksand
for:
night has weight that suffocates light
even the moon is hiding in eerie mist
blackbirds land on my heaving chest
pecking the last moves
of
a
defiant fist
