It was a friday, normally Maiyuu would get out of bed early and get ready to go to her grandmothers' where they'd go out for breakfast.
But today Maiyuu got up early and wrote a note which she stuck on the door for the people who brought her food.
Going out before you get here, can you put the box in the fridge? Kindly appreciated-Maiyuu.
She was happy with the note, because any unwanted eyes would just think that a friend was bringing chocolates or something that needed to be kept cold.
She had checked the time, it was almost 5 in the morning so she quickly whipped up some appropriate breakfast foods, dressed in warm clothes and headed out the door, slinging her school bag- which carried her uniform and school books and her phone- over her shoulder.
She struggled down the streets towards Rosa's house, the weight of four containers seeming to get heavier with every step.
She'd almost made it to Rosa's home when her name was called out.
"Maiyuu! Turn around!"
It was Rosa, standing red faced and sweaty but still standing. "What are you doing?"
"Where did you come from?"
"My morning run. Don't think you can change the subject. What are you doing and why do you have five containers of what I'm guessing is food?"
"Four containers actually, but uh, I was wondering seeing as your family were really kind to me if I could make the rest of breakfast here? I prepped the hardest stuff to do at home, as well as trying some new things for a more ethnic taste. I have some homemade tortilla's and I have some empty quesadilla shells and some leftover spiced mince."
Rosa smiled before nodding. "Come on in."
"Mama! Maiyuu's here!" She called as she opened the door
Her mother appeared in the hallway, seeming to materialize out of thin air
Rosa's mother was a short dumpy woman with a kind smile and silent footsteps, everything was so neat about her; she kept her hair tied back in a bun at all times, even if some strands did try to fly away
Her face lit up in a smile, as if Maiyuu was a friend she hadn't seen for years.
"Mijita! What time did you get your friend up? She looks so tired, and all that food! Rosa, hurry up and take the containers, chop chop!"
Maiyuu batted Rosa's hand away with some difficulty seeing as she had four containers balanced on her arms.
"Thank you Ms. Doe, but without being rude I don't mind taking these. I just need to finish some prep then I'm all set."
"No, no. Rosa will take the containers, we'll finish it off for you. I'll set out a towel for you and you can use our shower."
Maiyuu smiled gratefully before following her deeper into the cinnamon smelling house.
"Use whichever shampoo, conditioner or body wash you want." Rosa's mother said, dropping a towel in front of the shower before exiting the room and closing the door behind her.
So after ten minutes, Maiyuu exited the steaming shower and rejoined the mother daughter duo arguing rapidly in Spanish.
Maiyuu stood there, watching with amusement as Rosa got more and more flustered with her mum.
