This was the stupidest idea Catherine had ever heard of.
And yet, it was the only idea that made any logical sense.
As terrifying as that was.
Screams erupted from the crew, aside from Catherine, as they swung the bone cage across the valley towards the side of the cliff. She rolled her eyes, flinging her body forward with the cage to increase the momentum, as her men's loud voices rang in her ear.
They were so close to getting enough grip on the vines of the cliff. Their fingers slid against the natural rope, swinging back across the valley in defeat.
Using all of their might, they swung the cage as hard as they could, growing closer and closer until they reached the side of the cliff, getting a firm grip on the vines.
Catherine let out a tired sigh of relief. One step closer to reuniting with her husband; and one step closer to murdering her husband.
"Put your legs through! Start to climb!" Mr. Gibbs shouted to the men, as they all did ask told.
Will looked around at the crew. "Come on, men! It'll take all of us to crew the Black Pearl!" Catherine gave him a sharp look, causing him to blush. "And women," He added, earning a light, feminine "thank you."
"Actually, you wouldn't need everyone," Spoke the darker crewman, who constantly mouthed Catherine and Jack. "About six will do."
Everyone froze, looking at the opposite cage.
"Oh, dear," The man sang, his eyes wide by his secret intentions he careless revealed.
This instantly lit a fuse in an already very, very vexed Catherine Sparrow. "Bastard!" She screamed, her voice and face filled with venomous anger.
Will snapped his head to Mr. Gibbs and Catherine, before looking ahead, "Hurry!"
Both cages raced towards the top, climbing with all of their might to the final destination: The Black Pearl. Shouts of encouragement scattered across the men, and none from Catherine. Deep down, she was beating herself up for not throwing the man overboard when she had the chance. She knew his mouthy behaviors and disrespectful attitude would only end in a betrayal or mutiny.
"Stop! Stop!" Will whispered yelled, pulling her from her thoughts. Both cages froze mid-climb. A brow rose on Catherine's face as she looked to her best friend. He nodded up towards the wood bridge that stretched between the cliffs. A tiny figure of a young boy caught her eye the moment she looked up. It was one of the children from Pelegostos tribe.
She let out a sigh, watching him walk across, until something out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. The second cage began to silent climb up the cliff. She grit her teeth as they quietly laughed. Her eyes held their rebellious leader, as he gave her a wink while climbing. A chuckle came from him until his hand caught an orange and black snake. The man screamed about the creature in his hand, startling and causing his men to freak out. One by one, they lose their grip on the vines causing their cage to fall back down. Their screams echoed across the valley as they dropped down, snapping the rope that held up in the air. The crew watched as the second cage plummeted to its untimely demise.
"Oh well," Catherine shrugged, barely even giving them a second thought. Will nudged her shoulder. She looked up and saw the young boy staring down at them before bolting across the bridge.
She felt herself begin to panic.
"Move!" Will screamed to the crew.
At lighting speed now, the crew, or what was left of it, climbed up the side of the cliff. No one looked back as they raced with a life-threatening passion to get to the Pearl.
