The corner of my lips tugged up slightly as a breeze rustled through my sepia locks as I leisurely strolled next to Lydia and Allison. The brush of cool air on my skin did little to alleviate the pounding headache that I'd had since the morning.
Fucking full moon.
My hand raised to ruffle through my hair but it was promptly slapped down by Lydia whose eyes were piercing through me.
Lydia was extremely nervous to go back to school and like the good friend I was, I let her do my hair and makeup to get her mind off of it. I was seriously regretting that decision.
"You really don't remember anything?" Allison's chocolate eyes were wide as she incredulously looked at Lydia.
"They called it a 'fugue state,' which is basically a way of saying, 'we have no idea why you can't remember running through the woods naked for two days.'" Lydia rolled her eyes at the lack of knowledge that the doctors had. "But, personally, I don't care. I lost nine pounds."
Lydia smirked while shrugging and my hand reached for the cool metal that connected to the massive doors which separated us from the entire school population. Hesitant, I let my hand sit on the handle while Allison and I glanced at each other, on the same wavelength.
"Are you ready for this?"
Lydia scoffed, and rolled her eyes at Allison's question, "Please. It's not like my aunt's a serial killer."
My jaw dropped at Lydia's uncalled-for comment, "Lydia, what the fuck?!"
Allison smiled at me lightly to convince me she was fine but the hurt that she was trying to conceal was swirling in her eyes.
I knew that Lydia was lashing out at Allison to make herself feel better. She needed to feel better than someone. That didn't excuse it, though.
Lydia ignored me and yanked open the doors, the three of us stepping in. As soon as the loud clang of the metal doors shutting rang down the corridor, the once-bustling hallway was completely silent and still, all eyes on Lydia. The sharp sound of metal crashing into metal seemed to pierce into my brain, making me close my eyes tightly for a few seconds.
Again, fucking full moon.
Gawking as if they were spectators at the zoo, the students looked at Lydia as if they were expecting her to have a mental breakdown. Lydia was used to the attention but never for negative reasons.
Lydia shrank back a minuscule inch, the stares and whispering getting to her. Allison leaned over to Lydia and said in a low tone, "Maybe it's the nine pounds?"
My hand curling into a fist and flying to my lips to hide my smirk, I snorted lightly. That seemed to give Lydia the boost that she needed for she straightened her posture and strutted down the hallway as if she was on a catwalk.
