Y/n pov

I starred at the ground, then at Ula. How can she write? How does she know what a Neko is? I knew this dragon was intelligent but WOW! Estrella kept fumbling over her words. It was manly 'um', 'uh', and 'wha'. She finally went silant. Ula shifted, maybe she didn't like everyone starring at her. She looked at the four letter word she spelt, Neko. She actually answered a question, an actual question! I finally spoke, "H-how?" Was all I could manage. Ula smiled. I looked at Seto, who was starring at the word, "Seto," He snapped out of his trance and looked at me, I continued, "did you know she could do this?" He shook his head no. I looked back at the Water Snake. Estrella finally managed to speak, "W-wow! I never knew any animal could be that smart!" Ula smiled again, she sure likes to smile! Jann grinned, "I wonder if she can answer anything." I smiled, "Lets find out! Ula, um, man, why is it so hard to come up with questions? Ugh...How do you know a cat hybrid is called a neko?" We were all think it. She squeaked happily, and scratched another word into the mud, M-o-t-h-e-r. Her mother taught her things? Of course! They seem like complex creatures, so it would be normal for mothers to teach their young. "Is your mother here?" Jann asked. Ula nodded. Seto grinned, "Is there any way we can see her? I want to know how big you'll get." She nodded and tipped her head back. She let out a loud wailing noise. The water in the deep end started to ripple, a large dark blue head poked out of the water. Ula let out a series of squeaks. The mother let out a rumbling noise, close to a purr but it wasn't (If that makes sense XD) She swam to the shore and climbed onto the bank. She was as big as a large dog. Ula squeaked and swung her head in my direction. The mother dragon looked at me with a look of..approval? She looked like Ula, however, she had silver spines starting from her nose and ending at the tip od her tail, large green eyes, and she had..wings? They looked like wings. Seto looked like he was about to burst from the sight of her. The mother looked at him. He smiled, "A-an Alpha!! It's an alpha Water Snake!! I never thought I would ever see one!! They'er bigger then a normal one, normal ones don't grow very big, they stay around the length of your arm, or smaller. Alpha dragons have different ability's then the others!" The alpha nodded. She smiled, "I am Drakon Ismenios, please just call me Ismen." I jumped in surprise, she could talk!? Seto was grinning so wide I thought his face would rip in two, "You can talk!" Ismen nodded and spoke again, "My daughter says she chose you as her companion." She turned to me, I nodded. She continued to talk, "Will you care for her properly?" I nodded again, "Will you make sure she's safe, well fed, and isn't harmed?" I nodded again, "Y-yes ma'am. I will make sure she's cared for. Ismen smiled, "Good. Then she may go with you. She'll also protect you from danger. Think of her as a guardian."  I had a few questions I wanted to ask, "May I ask you a couple questions?" She nodded, "Well, will Ula be an alpha when she grows up?" "I like the name you chose. And no, I'm sorry but she wont be an alpha. Only if a Water Snake has wings will it be an Alpha. And she wont be able to talk like I can." I nodded, "I'm fine with that. How big will she get?" "She wont grow much bigger then she is now." "Okay, um, Is there anything else I should know about her?" Ismen thought for a moment, "She'll be able to communicate by writing, I suggest using paper and ink. Ula is shy, she's not used to people, but she seems to like you and your friends a lot though. That's good. One more thing, Water Snakes are very intelligent creatures, we can answer almost any question." I nodded, "Thank you." She smiled and gave Ulas' cheek a brisk lick, "I must go now. Protect each other. Take care of her, Y/n. Good bye." I was a little astonished that she knew my name. "G-good bye Ismen. I promise I'll take care of her." She smiled at all of this and disappeared back into the water. We all sat in silence. Ula was chasing a grass hopper next to us and Seto was still smiling. "Wow." I mumbled.

A little fact:

Drakon Ismenios was a gigantic serpent which guarded the sacred spring of Ismenos near ThebesThat's why I called her that! Think of her as the guardian of the creek thingy they/you were at!
