That night, Harley is awoken by a call from Scott.
"Hey?" she asks, blinking the sleep out of her eyes.
"Stiles is gone," Scott says over the phone.
"What?" Harley asks, sitting up and already getting dressed.
"Please, just, get here. Bring Isaac."
"I'm on my way." Harley hangs up the phone, finishes getting dressed, and opens the door to find Isaac facing her, ready to go.
"I heard the call," he explains. "Let's go."
Scott has just opened the door for Harley and Isaac once he receives another call from Stiles. He scrambles to grab his phone, answering the call.
"Hey Stiles," Scott breathes.
"Did you call him?" Stiles asks. "Did you call my dad!"
"No. Just Isaac and Harley. We're coming to find you. Can you figure out where you are? Try and find something t o tell us where to look."
"It's a basement. I think... I think I'm in some kind of basement."
"In a house?"
"No. It looks bigger. Industrial. I think there's a furnace. But it's cold. It's freezing down here. I gotta turn the... I gotta turn the phone off. It's going to die."
"Wait, wait wait. What else is down there? What do you see?" Harley exchanges a frantic look with Isaac.
"The phone's dying. I can't talk." Stiles' voice drops to a whisper. "I have to go. Please..."
"Why is he whispering?" Isaac asks.
"Because I think there's someone in here with me." Harley inhales sharply, looking Scott in the eyes.
"Well, shit," she sighs.
The three burst into Stiles' room, finding Lydia and Aiden already there.
"How did you know?" Scott asks. "Did he call you too?" As Scott and Lydia talk, Harley eyes Aiden distastefully. He winks back, causing Isaac to frown, gazing between the two of them. He steps slightly in front of Harley. Harley turns her attention as Lydia calls her name, nodding to Stiles' bed.
"He uses red for unsolved cases," Lydia sighs.
"Maybe he thinks he's part of an unsolved case?" Aiden asks.
"Or is an unsolved case," Isaac adds. An uncomfortable silence falls over the room.
"Hold on," Lydia says, turning to face the group. Harley steps forward and examines the string. "Is he still out there? You don't know where he is?" As the group argues, Harley hovers her hand over the string. The moment she stepped into room, she harbored an unfamiliar worry in her gut. Something about this feels far more sinister than she hoped.
"Harley," Scott calls to her softly. She turns around, knocked out of her stupor. "We're leaving."
"Go," she says. "I think I'll be more help elsewhere." She turns her attention back to the string, frowning thoughtfully. Soon, she gestures Lydia over to her.
"What is it?" Lydia asks, brushing shoulders with Harley. Harley nods to the string.
"Listen," she demands. "There's something supernatural here. I need you to hear it." Lydia hesitates, so Harley grabs her hand, guiding it to a specific spot on the string. "Start here. Do it. We don't have time for you to second guess yourself. Follow your instincts." Satisfied, she steps back. "I'm going to go to the police station. Call me if you find anything." She hesitates, looking to Aiden. "Keep her safe."
