Day Three

Exploring the labyrinth has been surprisingly fulfilling lately. I've had the good fortune to run into a few "skilled" skeletons and gained the [Evil Eye] [Examine] [Architect] and [Sturdy] skills which was a nice surprise.

Dealing with the [Evil Eye] skeleton was the most difficult since it would paralyse me for a few seconds every time it looked at me but eventually I got behind it and cracked the back of its skull open like an egg. The [Sturdy] skeleton was definitely the most annoying so far though. It took way too long to kill. I'm pretty sure I spent around an hour just beating on its skull with its own arm after I tore its limbs off.

Speaking of beating others with an arm, I decided it was about time I held on to a weapon. I figured the femur of the skeleton with [Sturdy] would suffice. Long and strong, just like- fuck. Forgot that was gone. I couldn't even let out a sigh at the lack of genitalia. At least I didn't have a brain so I couldn't really get depressed or feel sad for very long. It was more like a temporary sense of loss then back to normal. Not sure if that was a good thing or not, to be honest.

I was dragged quite forcefully away from these thoughts when I heard something from around the corner behind me. It sounded like voices but that was impossible. At least I thought it was. It was clear that there would be no point in hiding so I decided to remain motionless and act like I hadn't heard anything. In return, I was able to hear it again.

"We've hit a gold mine."

One of the voices spoke with certainty. I wasn't sure if they were talking about me, the bodies left in my wake or something else entirely, but my curiosity had been peaked.

"Right? All we have to do is follow that one and not get caught."

So they were talking about me. Well, too late. Now I just had to figure out their intentions. If they were nothing more than a bunch of scavengers plucking at leftovers, then I could leave them be for now, however if they were something more... say, I didn't come across anything for a while and they decided to attack me instead, well, I'd have to kill them, obviously.

I decided to wait a little and carried on, moving on to the next area. They followed and I 'didn't notice'. I took down another three skeletons as I walked, taking note with my peripherals, which I'd given up on understanding why I still had such a thing, that the humans following me really were scavenging off the corpses I'd taken down. What surprised me was that they were only taking the skulls.

I thought it was odd. Surely magic skeleton bones would be useful for more than just their skulls, right? I mean, look at me. I've been using a femur as a bludgeoning tool.

"Hey, think we should take that one out?"

Now that caught my attention.

"Are you serious? And give up the easy payday?"

"But that one's skull's got to be worth at least ten silver. That's a silver plate! People like us don't see that kind of coin, well, ever!"

"Shut up. It'll hear you."

"Are you kidding? It's a skeleton. It doesn't have ears!"

"Magic, dumbass. We're in a dungeon. Something like the skeleton hearing us wouldn't be the weirdest thing down here."

"Oh come on. Are you seriously gonna be a coward and let such a great payday slip by? What happens if we can't find it after today? What if another party comes through and takes it out?"

Others? Interesting. I'd have to keep an eye out.

"Alright, alright. Fine. I get it. We'll follow for a little while longer then take it out before we leave. That okay with you?"
