As they walked through the infinite hall to Callaghan’s workplace, their feelings were cold, and everything else was awkward. Deafening silence filled the halls, and no one wanted to start a conversation. Well, at least only their footsteps were heard.
Until finally, Professor Callaghan said “Hiro, are you still mad for the incident?”
Hiro was astonished with his professor’s question. He wasn’t able to think of a good answer—one that would strike the heart of Callaghan just as how he did to him, a poor bereaved boy. But, he decided to be straightforward and thought of setting the past behind but doing it in an epic and rather awesome way.
“You think it’s easy to lose someone who changed someone’s life for good?” Hiro started.
“Hiro, I--,” the old man tried to reply, but wasn’t able to finish his sentence.
“You think it was easy for me to lose someone who practically brought me here to this school?” Hiro said again. “…this school that you own?” He further emphasized.
They stopped walking for a while, and looked at each other in the eye. But before Callaghan even spoke, he added “It’s not easy!” He paused for a while and finally spoke his heart out.
“First of all, it was never easy for me to lose Tadashi, my brother who was like my father to me."
"Second, it was never even easier to adjust and to study well in school because of depression. I may be in 3rd year collage, but I am still a 16 year-old person."
"And finally, what do you think was inside my heart when I tried to save your daughter? And that was not even all! I once lost Baymax too, just to do so."
"Now you’re enjoying your life with the person I saved who was the reason why my brother has died.”
Callaghan’s mind almost exploded when he heard these. But he didn’t speak. On the other hand, Hiro looked very serious and his face has somewhat intimidated Callaghan.
However, in reality, all that was inside Hiro’s mind was, “Buuuuurn! I can’t believe I actually said those words. My mouth is magic. This is so cool. I totally burnt my own professor. In your face, Callaghan. I wish Tadashi was here to laugh at it.” When he thought of this, his brother specifically, he finally calmed his mind from his happiness, got back to where he was and frowned.
Moreover, he started to walk and Professor Callaghan came after him.
“I apologize for everything. I know it wasn’t easy for you. And I also even didn’t expect that you would save her life. I promise to you, I would--,” Callaghan was interrupted by Hiro.
“No, no, no, no, no. With all due respect, I don’t want any other promises or anything else. The apology was good and enough. And one more thing—that I would have to think of.”
Robert Callaghan was stunned by this “one more thing” that Hiro has mentioned. But, he forgot all of these as they approached his office.
“We’re here Hiro,” he said.
Hiro was impressed by the overall, let’s say atmosphere, of Callaghan’s lab; especially when he saw the main reason of his visit to his school in the middle of winter break—the Time Machine.
