Living on the road is incredibly tiring. Living with a child is incredibly tiring. Living as a single mom is incredibly tiring. Being a single mom, on tour, is impossible.
I guess that's why I have my band. Well, they do play instruments onstage, but offstage they all act as second, third, and fourth mommy. Even though they're guys.
I wake up when Rocket wakes up, which, on the road, is at best six hours from when I put her down. I carry Rocket towards the mini-kitchen, careful not to stumble as the tour bus flies across the highway. I set her down, fixing a breakfast for both of us. For her, it's usually some type of cereal or applesauce-type fruit concoction. For me, it's whatever the boys have left over in the fridge. With a piece of cold pizza hanging from my mouth, I attempt to change Rocket's diaper before she cries and wakes up the rest of the band. I pray that I don't drop the pizza. After this, I usually change her and myself. Rocket will sit and watch Netflix on my laptop while I attempt to do my makeup without stabbing myself in the eye, or she'll rifle through my makeup bag and put things in her mouth as she pleases.
Eventually, the rest of the gang wakes up, and Rocket plays with her farm animals, assigning each animal to a band member, insisting they make the correct noises. She particularly likes Brodie's sheep impression.
When we get to the venue, Rocket is always restless. Although she's rather used to it by now, it's obvious she doesn't like being in a bus all day. She usually runs anywhere we can't catch her, and during hair and makeup I sometimes have to box her in using sofas, tables, or whatever else is in the dressing room. She's not trying to be naughty, she just wants to explore. A new place every day, I don't blame her.
During the show there's always people backstage to watch her. Sometimes they stand off in the wings, letting her watch as mommy sings her heart out. I can always see from the corner of my eye as she nods her head up and down to the music. She's going to be a performer someday, she's a natural. I like when she's offstage. It's encouraging to look to the side and see my biggest fan. She also goes to sleep early on those nights. But she can't always be in the wings. If she's cranky or over-excited she'll be too loud and someone will have to watch her backstage. This is usually a friend of mine who tags along, a manager, or my mom during the shows she attends.
My mother has always been very supportive of me. I knew she would disapprove of my decision to have Rocket before I was married, and although it didn't work out the way I had hoped, with Rocket's father leaving and all, I don't regret it at all. Rocket has opened so many parts of my personality I didn't know existed. She taught me how to be patient, empathetic, and caring. She also taught me a great deal on responsibility, which I believe has made me a more talented performer. Rocket changed my life, and although raising my daughter on the road without a father was not always my ideal, I wouldn't have it any other way.
//Author's Note
Hi friends! Here's the first chapter of my new Bights fanfiction: "Just Hold on, We're Going Home". (Title likely to change)
I don't know how often I'll be able to update, but I do like the plan I have for this story so far, so perhaps I will be able to stick to writing!Even though this is a AU, I like to stick to details as much a possible when it comes to the Bokans, so if there's anything I'm writing that's incorrect (despite the main creative liberties I'm taking with Lights being a single mom etc.) PLEASE correct me in the comments or in a message. I would honestly be so thankful.
Although I usually am against this type of format, this story will be written in both Light's and Beau's POV. Chapters in Lights' POV will have one of her songs as the title. Chapters from Beau's POV will have a blessthefall song as the title. I hope it shouldn't be too confusing, but I'll be sure to clarify at the beginning of each chapter which character is speaking!
I missed writing, and I missed you guys, so please give me some feedback in the comments! I love hearing from you!
