New Years was just around the corner. The redheads and their spouses were once again invited to their rendezvous spot.
Ding dong! The doorbell rang. That was strange, considering no one in this hectic family bothering going through the front door. They simply intruded through the floo.
"Ginny dear, do you mind answering that? I doubt it'd be any of your brothers, but it could just be the muggle postman. He might have some post for us." Mrs Weasley was cutting vegetables and didn't want her hands dirtied with filth on muggle packages.
"Sure, mum," said Ginny, coming out of her room and running downstairs. Opening the door, she expected to see a postman, but she didn't. Instead...
"Hello," said Harry. "Harry New Year's Eve."
"Harry! You're so early!"
"I thought I'd come and help out a bit. I was off duty."
"Oh, come on in!" She ushered him inside. "Mum, Harry's here!"
"Harry dear! Oh, I should have known! Of course, it was like this every year!" Molly exclaimed, washing her hands in the sink. "I do thank you, but we're mostly done. The sheets and tents outside have been set up too, by Arthur this morning. Ginny dear helped me prepare the food and they just need cooking when people start arriving. So do relax, Harry, make yourself at home!"
"Are you sure, Mrs Weasley? I don't mind doing any work-"
"I'm certain, son! How about...how about you go with Ginny into her room? I've given her some hot chocolate and there are spare mugs in her cupboard. The rest of them should be arriving in about an hour, but considering they are usually fashionably late, do take your time. I'll call you down when they start swarming in."
"Thank you, Mrs Weasley, but-" he was interrupted by Ginny dragging him upstairs by the wrist. As soon as they disappeared out of sight, Mrs Weasley's smile faded. "Dear boy, please come to your senses. My Ginny isn't the same without you."
Upstairs, Ginny handed Harry a mug full of hot chocolate and scattered a handful of marshmallows on top. Harry smiled at her as a thanks. They sat down on her furry rug.
Looking around, Harry found it difficult to hold back a tear. This was the place of stolen kisses before his fatal mission, of nights of ecstasy after the war to hide their pain. Tears flooded his eyes as they saw the Holyhead Harpies' posters on the wall, and the brightly lit room that was filled with so many memories. Yet, to think that she doesn't know any of this...it stabbed him like a knife digging into his heart.
"Are you okay, Harry?" Asked Ginny.
"I'm...I'm fine, thanks."
"My mum says that you were the hero of the wizarding world. When I asked her why, she told me to ask you. Will you end my misery and tell me what you did?"
Harry was caught off guard. Of course, why was she surprised that she didn't remember the war? She didn't remember anything, for Merlin's sake!
"Er," was he managed to say. "Well..."
"Don't worry if you aren't comfortable. It's okay."
"No, it's fine, you deserve to know. But...it's a very long story. And I'm not really a hero. Just a dumb boy who had loads of help."
"Oh, come on, it can't be that long! (A/N it actually can, specifically seven whole books/eight full-length movies kind of long) Tell me already! I'm all ears."
"Okay...so it all started about twenty six years ago. The wizarding world had a new dark force rising, and his name was Lord Voldemort..."
Harry continued on with the story, over-humbling his own figure and carefully avoiding his lovesick romance in his sixth year. Ginny oohed and ahed at just the right places, as if their minds were in sync.
"...and he was dead. Lord Voldemort was dead, at last, killed by his own spell."
"You..." Ginny pointed a shaky finger at Harry. "You killed Lord Voldemort. You are a hero. You saved our lives."
"I didn't really, he killed himself-"
"Oh, stop being so humble, would you? You saved us. You saved me. From the Chamber of Secrets. I couldn't be more thankful." With that, she gave Harry a sudden hug. Startled, Harry froze, but melted into her embrace. This feeling was so familiar. He couldn't word how much he had missed her touch.
