Red. All she could see was an attractive shade of red, almost scarlet. It looked so appealing.
She felt something underneath her. Like - like a bed. Opening her eyes, she sat up.
"Ginny!" a woman cried. She was no more than sixty, with bright ginger hair and a plump physique. Next to her was a man around the same age, balding but with ginger hair nonetheless. He looked longingly at the girl as if pleading with her to know who he was.
On the other side of her bed stood a young woman no older than thirty, with rather bushy hair, her eyes full of worry but also a twisted sense of relief. A man around her age put his hand around her shoulder. His ginger and freckled features matched the older couple on the other side of the bed. Next to him, however, was another young man their age. He had messy jet black hair, a muscular yet elongated physique, and emerald-coloured eyes that looked to the floor. They looked like they lacked a soul. Somehow, the girl on the bed felt something inside her simply connected to this person. Somehow, she loved him. Without even knowing who he is. But she couldn't say that. It was just a hunch.
"I'm sorry..." that was all she could say. She didn't know who they were. Strangers.
Tears streamed down the woman's cheeks. The man hugged her tighter whilst holding in tears himself.
A nurse type figure walked in. She was wearing a green robe-like gown. "I see you've wakened up," she said. She sounded like she was trying to hide something. At the sight of her, the young man looked up, and they exchanged a quick worrisome glance. They must be dating, thought the girl. I can't get in the way. "Do you remember anything? Have you seen anything, like a colour?"
The recipient dug deep into her "memory", or lack of. Nothing. All she could "remember" was that pool of red and a sense of belonging towards the emerald-eyed man. But she couldn't say that. Not to his girlfriend. She felt an immediate sense of anger towards this nurse woman, even though she shouldn't.
"Er," she said. "I saw a pool of red before I woke up."
"That must have been one of the things you last saw for it to be engraved in your memory. Do you remember your name?"
Obviously, I know my name, thought the girl. But when she tried to retrieve it from her memory, she couldn't.
"No," she replied, slightly embarrassed.
"Not to worry. Your name is Ginevra Weasley, more commonly known as Ginny. You had recently lost your memory through a spell. You live in a world of witches and wizards, where we perform magic through our wands. These-" she gestured towards the people around her bed, "are your family and close friends. I'll have them introduce themselves to you. Mrs Weasley, would you like to go first?"
The plump woman nodded and wiped her tears on her sleeve. "I'm M-Molly Weasley. I'm your mother." Her voice was trembling. "Do you...do you not remember anyone? Even...even m-me?"
Ginny shook her head guiltily. She knew how her mother would have felt if her own daughter didn't remember her. There was just nothing she could do.
Seeing the tense atmosphere, the man said, "I'm Arthur Weasley, your father. You have s- five older brothers. One of them is here." He gestured towards the other redhead. It made sense to Ginny. She noticed that she was a redhead too, but five brothers?!
"Hi Ginny," the young man said. His voice was extremely sad. "I'm your older brother. Youngest older brother, but still older. I'm Ron. Weasley, obviously."
"Hi Ginny," said the young woman. Her voice was shakier than Mrs Weasley's. "I'm...I'm your best friend, Hermione Granger. I'm also Ron's wife."
But Ginny wasn't really listening. She was waiting for the young man's turn. She needed to know who he was.
"Hi Ginny," he started. His voice was slightly raspy, but it was obvious he was trying to hide something. "I'm Harry Potter. I'm...I'm your friend." At this, Ron, Hermione, and the Weasleys glanced at him quickly, as if not believing what he said.
"So, Ginny," said the nurse before Ginny could ask. "I'm Healer Williams. A healer, by the way, is a magical nurse or doctor. And, your memory...well, we don't know. It may come back tomorrow, or it may never come back. But don't lose hope and don't let this get in the way of you living a good life. You deserve it." Hearing this made Ginny feel better towards her. Swiftly she flashed her a small smile. "Hmm, I'll leave you guys to it, then. Ginny, you're free to go. Feel free to come back whenever you need. Just tell the reception people you're looking for Healer Williams or come with Harry. He knows where my office is." This made Ginny's heart drop.
"Okay," she said. "Thank you..."
"Don't worry, Ginny. I wish you the best of luck. Happy Christmas." With that, she walked out.
