UNBROKEN [ MAX VERSTAPPEN ]

13. Night Out

"Dinner is ready" - I hear Charles' voice as I stare at Monaco and its beauty, I turn back and he is leaning against the entrance to the living room, unlike me and Max, Charles owns a house in Monaco and one of the most beautiful I have ever seen in my life - "I could live my whole life in this view, you, Monaco and the stars" - he speaks and walks towards me, he is perfectly well-groomed as always - "What are you thinking?" - he speaks as he grabs me from behind and deposits a small kiss on my shoulder.

"Tomorrow I leave for Milton Keynes again" - I speak and turn to him facing him, Charles shifts position leaning against the balcony and making room in between his legs for me to fit in, placing his hands on either side of my hips

"Red Bull presentation?" - he questions and I don't answer - " You don't have to keep secrets from me, I already know Victoria, Max told Lando, and Lando told me"

"It's just that Max keeps hinting that I'm going to give information about what's going on at Red Bull and about his life, and I don't want to give him reason to, I'm afraid he'll find a way to get me fired from Red Bull" - I speak

"Firstly, if he did that who would lose is them Victoria, secondly, all of them in the team love you and would never have the courage to do that, thirdly that would never happen because you are professional and love your job." - he continues - "This is Max being Max, he has to find a reason to pick on you, it's either me, or it's your job, or whatever and you can't respond to his offenses, do your job and just ignore his snide comments."

"You know he's back with Kelly?"-I look at Charles and he for a moment doesn't seem surprised

"I'm not surprised at all, Kelly is a nice girl, but we all know what she wants, and Max has some kind of syndrome that just doesn't like to be alone, obviously he would be back, besides she does all that he wants" - he speaks and shrugs - "But let's not worry about that, let's have dinner before gets cold and enjoy our evening."

Charles and I walk towards the interior of the house, once again he has prepared a special dinner, this time a typical Italian dish and a good wine, I must admit that I have always loved wines, but Charles' taste is exceptional and always surprises me with his choices.

"Sorry, it's my cell phone, do you mind?" - I say when I hear my cell phone ringing inside my bag that is on the couch in the living room, although it is rude to leave a meal, it might be something work-related and there is no person who understands that better than Charles - "Yes Christian?" - I speak answering my cell phone

"Victoria, sorry to interrupt your evening, but just to confirm the plane tomorrow at two in the afternoon, and to see if you need a ride?" - Christiana questions on the other end of the line

"No need, Charles will drive me to the airport" - I say as I look at him, Charles hasn't offered to drive me yet, but I'm sure like the other times he makes it a point to pick me up and take me

"Just to confirm also that everything is all set for the photoshoot tomorrow with the new car, I have taken care of everything, he has the space all clear for you guys"

"Thank you, Christian, I will let Max, Perez, Natasha, and Christian know by message" - I thank Horner and quickly pick up my cell phone and send a confirmation message to all of them with the time and place and put my cell phone back in my purse and go back to dinner

"Where were we going?" - Charles speaks and looks at me as I sit back down at the table - "What do you want to do after dinner?"

"I don't know, we could hang around the house, watch a movie, what do you say?" - I question

"Perfect, honestly I'm pretty tired, I've been doing focus tests all day, I feel exhausted" - he speaks and laughs

"Then we can take off these clothes, get something more comfortable and watch a movie, we can make some popcorn, something relaxing" - I speak and he agrees

"You could stay here and sleep, what do you say?" - he questions

"I already came prepared for that, I prepared a backpack and left it in the car in case the invitation came up" - I say and laugh at what I just said

"You don't need an invitation Victoria, you're always welcome to sleepover at my place anytime you want" - Charles speaks and offers to get my stuff from the car, I quickly start packing up the plates and glasses and put them in the dishwasher, but he quickly comes up behind me and helps me take care of the rest.

After we have everything tidied up we go upstairs to the bedroom and Charles changes his suit into a Nike tracksuit and I grab one of my pajamas and we go downstairs again, Charles lights the fireplace so we are warmer and he grabs one of the blankets from the closets and takes it to the couch laying down and I lay down next to him.

"So what do you want to watch today?" - he says as he fiddles with the TV where he plays various movies

"Charles?" - I say and pull out the remote and start scanning to look for exactly the movie I want to watch

"Again Victoria?" - he says and laughs swinging his head back.

"But it's eight movies Charles, we've only seen 4 yet, let's go halfway through please?" - I say and pout

"I'll probably fall asleep halfway through, so if it's Harry Potter you want to watch, it's Harry Potter we'll watch" - he speaks and laughs and I put on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix which happens to be my favorite movie of the whole saga

The death of Sirius Black always moves me, when finally Harry had reunited with someone from his family, to lose again, I move a little and realize that Charles's body is thrown on top of mine, he has his head resting on my stomach and an arm thrown around my waist, his leg is on top of both of mine, holding me, the room is dark and the tones of the movie are dark, but I can tell by his breathing that Charles is asleep, I take the remote and put the movie on pause and I take a look around and get a message where Victoria posts a picture of us, I republish the post and quickly find her number and call her, being careful not to wake Charles.

"Hi" - I say softly and notice Charles, but he is so tired he doesn't even move - "I can't talk too loud because Charles is sleeping"

"So it's official, you're with Charles, and I've lost my sister-in-law of choice" - she speaks and I understand her disheartened tone

"Kelly is a great person Victoria, give it time, they were in a complicated phase that's why she's been a little stressed, just the possibility of losing Max, the person she liked, and likes make a person crazy" - I speak trying to find a plausible reason for all her behaviors - "And we can't just say that she's after your brother because of the money because she already has that"

"Yes, that is true, but she knows about Max's feelings for you Victoria, it is impossible for her not to know, who is the person who would humiliate herself, accept a person who clearly doesn't like us, who would do that?" - she speaks and I look at Charles again to see if he doesn't understand the tenor of our conversation.

"A person who is in love" - I speak and with one of my hands, I start messing with Charles' hair.

"But when you get back from the presentation, see if you can find some time to visit me, or else if you don't want to cross paths with Max and Kelly I'll visit you" - she speaks

"Of course, you will, I'm going to hang up now, I'm going to wake Charles up and let's go to sleep, kisses" - I hang up and throw my cell phone to the other end of the couch and quite carefully start trying to wake Charles who is sound asleep - "Charles?" - I speak and he doesn't answer me - "Charles?" - I speak louder and he looks at me staring at me confused - "Let's go to bed, this is no sleeping position at all"
