She looked at their old group picture of her, her sisters and her neighbor. She remembered how her sisters loved her. How she herself loved her. Today, Kashish wasn't just unhappy because she was getting married off but also because her friend woth whom she had seen all these dreams with was not there next to her. She closed her eyes and went back to her sweet memories.

There she was, waiting for Kashish to come out. She was wearing her school uniform.

She was as bubly as ever. Happily waiting for her best friend to come out of her house so that theu both left for school together.

"Kashish!! Jaldi aao!!" She screamed on the top of her lungs.

"Ha bas aai!!" Kashish was running down the stairs of her house.

The two girls intertwined their fingers and went walking to the bus stop to catch the school bus.

Kashish opened her eyes. She knew that it had been very long since she had met her, or even taken her name. She saw a clear file near her bed. She went near it and opened it. She saw that there was a small poem that was written by her then best friend. She read it once again.

"To be best of friends,
Is a true gift,
To share things together,
To care and uplift.

In good times and bad,
The bond will endure,
Whether happy or sad,
The love will be pure.

True friendship spans distance,
None is too vast.
True friendship spans time,
Forever it will last.

Whether living close together,
Or being far apart,
Your friend is with you,
In your mind and your heart.

Happy birthday to my best friend and my best gift ever in my life, Kashish!"

She recalled the time when she had received this.

"Kashish, yeh tumhare liye hai. Mai jaanti hu ki yeh kuch khaas nahi hai par yeh maine apne haatho se likha hai aur banaya bhi maine khud hi hai. I hope tumhe accha laga!" She was scared as well as happy to give Kashish her birthday present as everyone around had gifted her in big boxes.

Kashish read the entire poem,

"Accha? Yeh toh mera sabse accha gift hai! Mujhe yeh gift bohot accha laga! Mai hamesha hamesha iss gift ko apne paas rakhungi! I promise!! And I love you!!" They both hugged and the party continued.

Kashish used to remember her and her jolly self whenever she felt low. She knew that it was only her best friend that used to bring a smile on her face during such time.

"Naina.." she chuckled after remembering her and her antics.

••••••••••◇••••••••••

Naina came down running towards Kashish.

"KASHISH!!!" She bumped into Kashish intentionally. Then the two girls got up laughing and Naina handed her a lollipop. "Yeh lo, abhi abhi papa laye! Accha, tum abhi free ho na?"

"Ha, mai toh free hu..kyu kya karna hai Naina?" Kashish asked her while taking the lollipop from her.

"Zyada kuch nahi, bas Naveen bhaiya abhi aate hi honge kinare wale dunkan se.... milke unhe oollu banaye?" Naina's eyes lit up with this idea.

"Naina, aisa kuch nahi hona chahiye jiss se hum dono ko phir ek baar dant pad jaye. Badi mushkil se toh pichli baari bache the." Kashish told her with concern. Last time their respective parents would've cut their pocket money and grounded them for 2 days, after a lot of saying the 2 weeks changed into 2 days.

"Nahi hoga aisa kuch! Pakka! Aao!" Naina took Kashish near their gate and the two installed a thread in a way that it was below his knee. Naveen came in and fell for their trap. He fell down on the grass. And caught Naina and Kashish laughing. They all had a good chase behind each other. Then Naveen had caught them and all 3 of them started to laugh.

Kashish was sitting there with the birthday card that was ince given yo her by Naina. Naina used to write poems and quotes and make her listen to them. She used to like it. She even used to keep those papers with her. She reminded the time when she had fallen sick.

••••••••••◇••••••••••

Kashish remembered an incident from when she was 14 years old.

"Kashish, tum idhar hi rehna beta, agar bukhar badh jaye toh apne beheno se keh kar paani magalena aur apne upar laga lena. Agar mujhe yeh important school board meeting mai nahi jaana hota toh mai zarur ruk jata." Kashish's father told Kashish who was having fever.

"Nahi papa, aap jaiye, kuch hoga toh mai dekh lungi." Kashish knew that her father had no choice but to leave.

Kashish slept for a whole and then woke up and realized that her sisters must be hungry. Due to the fever she had dosed off. Sha came down and saw her sisters eating their food. She looked inside the kitchen to see who it was. A smile creeped up her face. It was Naina.

"Kashish! Tum yaha kya kar rahi ho!? Tumhe abhi aaram ki zarurat hai, tum jao aur aaram karo, mai inn sab ko khana dene ke baad tumhara khana laa rahi hu! Accha abhi temperature kaisa hai tumhara?" Naina asked while making the food.

"Pata nahi, check karke bata dungi. Accha phir mai chalti hu upar." Kashish left the kitchen and went up to her bed. She knew her temperature would be high because she was feeling cold. Yet, for the sake of not listening to Naina's scolding, she checked, and she was correct it was high.

Naina came up with her food in hand. She saw the Temperature and quickly ran down to get things for sponging.
"Kashish! Tumhe toh bohot bukhar hai! Aur tum neeche aai thi kaam karne? Dimag toh theekane pe hai tumhara?" Naina was panicking. That was her, her friendship and love. Kashish always found herself lucky for having found a friend like Naina. "Smile kya kar rahi ho Kashish?" Naina asked in astonishment.

"Kuch nahi! Naina, thank you yaha aane ke liye.."Kashish was about to say something more when Naina stood up. "Kya hua Naina?"

"Kya hua? Kashish, humare dosti mai yeh sab thank you aur sorry wagerah wagerah kab se shuru ho gaya hai? Ooohh... samaj gai, yeh tum nahi tumhara bukhar baat kar raha hai mujhse." Naina teased her. "Par Kashish, on a much serious note, agar mai yaha nahi aati toh mai kaha jaati? Tum meri best friend ho, aur agar best friend beemar hai toh doosre best friend ki duty hoti hai ki woh uska dhyan rakhe. Jaise ki tum rakhti hu jab mai beemar padti hu, aur jaise mai tumhara dhyan rakhti hu (Teasingly she said) Ha tumhara dhyan sirf beemar hone par nahi rakhna padta, tumhara dhyan toh roz rakhna padta hai!" They both laughed. And soon Naina was doing her sponging after she ate a little food and Naina gave her medicines.

••••••••••◇••••••••••

Kashish remembered each and every moment spent with her best friend Naina and wondered if she remembered her as well or not.

"Mai toh ab yeh bhi nahi jaanti hu ki woh hai kaha par. Jabse woh log shift hue, tabtak hum dono ke beech mai darar pad chuki thi aur hum dost nahi rahe the. Kabhi kabar mann karta hai ki usse dhoondh ke uske paas baithu, dher saare baate karu par yeh sab ab nahi ho sakta. Naina toh pata nahi iss duniya ke konse kone mai hogi abhi. Aasha karti hu ki woh jaha bhi hogi, theek aur acchi ho." She was sad upon realizing how distant these two friends were now.
