A few days later, you're finishing up another mission, wiping the blood off your blade carefully when you notice a growing black shape in the distant sky. A familiar squawk tells you that it's just Kuroe, flying to you to inform you of your next assignment.

Kuroe lands on your shoulder in a graceful flutter of black feathers, and you roll your eyes as he looks distastefully at the demon's blood on the ground that has yet to evaporate. "What's up, Kuroe? If it's just another mission, I'd prefer if you didn't yell in my ear-"

"Hikaru Akito!" Kuroe ignores your words, letting out one of his loudest screeches and making you wince as he assaults your eardrums. "You are to report to the Demon Slayer Headquarters immediately! The Headquarters! Oyakata-sama is waiting! Hurry!"

You nearly cut your finger off as you fumble your katana in shock. Seeing this, your crow seems pleased with himself, letting out a mocking caw before preening his feathers.

Your mind is whirling as you sheathe your sword with shaky hands. Oyakata-sama, as in the leader of the entire Demon Slayer Corps?? Why in the world would he call for me, of all people? Is there something he needs to say to me in person? You have to remind yourself to breathe as your mind comes up with a hundred and one crimes you could have committed to be summoned like this. Did I maybe break a rule without realizing?

Well, whatever the reason, you know you can't escape the summon. The leader's words are absolute. I can't keep Oyakata-sama waiting like this. You calm yourself down then turn to your crow.

"Lead the way, Kuroe."

It's your first time at the Ubuyashiki Estate. Which makes sense because the Hashiras and the Kakushi, along with the Ubuyashiki family, of course, are the only ones to frequent the estate that also doubles as the Demon Slayer Headquarters.

Kuroe has led you to the front door and disappeared, leaving you to enter the mansion on your own. Taking a deep breath, you knock your knuckles against the door, once, twice, three times. As if it had been waiting, the door slides open immediately revealing two small girls with white hair on the other side.

Your eyes widen. You know these girls from Fujikasane Mountain, where your Final Selection had taken place, and that they are the daughters of the leader.

"Greetings," like you had remembered, the girls speak in perfect sync. "Are you Hikaru Akito?"

"Yes."

"Then please follow us. The leader is waiting to speak to you." The girls turn around and walk farther into the mansion, and you follow behind them nervously a few steps behind.

What exactly had you done wrong that his daughters had to come in person to escort you?

You all stop outside a closed shoji door, and you almost stop your Total Concentration Breathing in shock as a voice speaks from inside the room. The voice is mellow in tone as it addresses the two girls. "Nichika. Hinaki. Have you brought her?"

"Yes. Hikaru Akito is here."

The door rolls open, and the girls motion for you to step into the room. You do so, taking a deep breath as the door shuts behind you, leaving you and who you assume to be Oyakata-sama alone.

You look toward the man who sits on a mat in the middle of the room, trying to hide your surprise at his sickly appearance. You had always assumed that the leader of the Corps would be some strong and heroic figure capable of killing any demon, but contrary to your expectations, the man in front of you is pale, delicate, and blind. Purple marks that have the appearance of spider webs cover his face and spread down over his eyes, giving the appearance that his face is rotting.
