2 - 5 months before the accident ...

“Run” was the first thought that popped into my hair, “Keep going, don’t stop!” my feet hit the narrow path in a steady rhythm; skipping over rocks and fallen branches. The wind whipping my hair around my face as I dove deeper and deeper into the wood. My heart was thumping like a drum beat ringing in my ears.

Finally, I broke through the thick undergrowth and into my favourite place on earth. The place where I could truly be myself, away from judgmental eyes, a place I could think and feel freely. This was my special place.

“The Meadow” I sighed.  Everything was calm around me, as if it was in some sort of clear dome; completely isolated from the outside world. It was my little secret, and I wasn’t willing to share. I lay down on the soft, green grass and stared up at the sky in wonder; there wasn’t a cloud in sight!

“This truly is perfection” I thought to myself. Just as quickly as those words entered my mind, they were gone as everything changed around me. The sky turned a dark grey colour and the wind began to blow strongly; making me shiver with cold.

Suddenly, I heard a loud snap off to my left and not a second later an earsplitting howl echoed around the meadow.“Oh shit” I whispered and took off running, there was no way I was going to stick around to find out what creature made that noise.

The wood around me seemed to be closing in; tree branches whipped me tearing my clothes and cutting my skin. My body was screaming at me to run as I desperately tried to get away from that monster.

Just as I was about to give up, I saw a flash of the main road and my hope skyrocketed. 10 meters, 5 meters “Come on Jordan” I puffed. 3 meters, 2 meters, I was almost there!

“Arrr!” I screamed as my foot caught on a tree root making me land hard on the ground. That is of course when the thing I feared the most, the monster in the woods, jumped out behind me! It’s huge form stepping close and closer, digging its big black paws into the ground. “Please” I whispered, “Please don’t hurt me” and that’s when it lunged!
