"𝐌𝐀𝐄𝐕𝐄 𝐖𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐌𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 the puck! She drives it down center ice, fakes around Germaine, and scores her fifth point of the game! The crowd goes wild!"

"I let you score that goal."

"The crowd is so loud that Germaine's comments can't be heard over the loud chants of 'Williams! Williams! Williams!'."

"Are you always going to be this arrogant?"

"Depends. Am I always going to beat you?"

"She's doing it again."

"You just wait, Mae. I'm going to get you one day."

"Maeve."

"I'll believe it when I see it."

"Maeve!"

"What? Sorry," I quickly say as my best friend, Adam Banks, is on the brink of slapping me back into reality.

"You're daydreaming again," Chris McGill stated, slamming his locker shut to reveal Aiden Larson standing behind him.

I didn't even realize they were there. "I wasn't daydreaming."

"Oh yeah?" Adam asked with amusement. "What were we just talking about then?"

"...Hockey," I guessed, trying to make my voice sound confident with my answer.

Lucky for me, they only ever talk about hockey. So when the boys shrug their shoulders and let it go, I take that I had come to the correct conclusion.

They led the way through the busy hallway, where kids were flooding from rooms in every direction. I followed them because they knew what period of the day it was and I hadn't regained my memory of that yet. I was almost knocked over by a football player running directly into me until Aiden pulled me out of the way.

"What a jerk," I mutter as if I wasn't partially at fault for not being aware of my surroundings until 3 seconds ago.

"You seriously need to get your head back, Maeve. Reilly is starting you in tonight's game," Chris reminded me.

I didn't need to be reminded of that -- it's been all I can think about for the past week. "I was just distracted."

"For nearly 4 minutes?" Aiden questioned, trying to keep up with the other boys' pace even though he was significantly shorter than them. "I don't think you even blinked once."

"Can we just talk about something else?" I asked, rolling my eyes.

"Hockey game tonight," Adam proposed, holding the door open for us as we walked out of the school building. I guess the day was over. "Against D-5."

The district-5 team was unbeatable as long as they were the only ones on the ice.

"Thank god," Chris laughed at the mere thought of the team. "I was starting to get tired of actually breaking a sweat during a game."

Christopher McGill was a jerk. But he was nice to me. Probably only because we'd been playing together for the past 2 years.

"How are you feeling about it, M?" Adam asked me, glancing towards me in a way that said: I know what you're thinking because I'm thinking the same thing.

I just shrugged.

Adam had been so obvious with what he was hinting at, that even the dumbest boys in the grade had caught on. "Is this about that guy again?"
