I'm not gonna lie: this was a hard one.
There are quite a few difficult issues covered in the "Safe Haven Saga". Each of them came with an overwhelming sense of uneasiness (in terms of how I felt writing about them), especially Koko's struggles with sexual identity and Kia's with drug use and sexual abuse. This one, however, was a special kind of "disturbing"—one that evoked feelings of nausea, revulsion, and an intense desire to NOT write this story (to be completely candid with you). Unfortunately, I felt that the topic covered needed to be addressed, especially in a place like Safe Haven.
I'll build on all this a little more in the Afterword, so for now, let's just get into the story.
Oh, and concerning the main characters... well, let's just say you shouldn't get too attached.
