<<<Emilys POV>>>

I stretched on the couch enjoying my peace. The house was so quiet on account of Lauren and Sarah were both working while Judy was in her room. She usually is in their alone when we weren’t practicing.

I readjusted myself so that I was laying on the back of my hands. I closed my eyes and began my usual dream. The moon was up and I was getting ready to go into the dark cold ocean. The waves had split for me but as I reached the edge of the water I had the urge to turn around. As I slowly turned my head, I noticed a figure walking towards me. I squinted trying desperately to see who it was before…

            “You awake?”

I opened my eyes and the living room came back into focus.

Damn. I was so close to seeing his face this time.

“I wanted to talk to you.” Judy continued. I readjusted myself so that I was sitting up straight on the couch. I guess she mistook my change in position as an invitation to sit next to me.

“Nice hair,” I commented on her new purple streaks.

“Thanks, I had to do something. I really am a colorful person, and wearing all black is killing me. My hair isn’t what I wanted to talk to you about though.”

Judy stopped talking, waiting for my response. I stayed silent and she took that as a note to continue.

“I had a life before the accident…a good one.” Judy paused, looking at the ceiling before continuing. “I was a top honors and scholars student at one of the best schools in the country. I had a good future ahead of me. Studying all day gave me a boring reputation, however, and I didn’t have many friends. Long story short, I made friends with the wrong group of people and was at the wrong place at the wrong time and thus I got my curse.”

“I’m sorry.” I replied trying to sound sincere enough for her to leave. What did she want me to do? I hope she didn’t expect me to pity her for having the perfect life before she gained special abilities.

“Well,” she continued, “Obviously I had to leave the university. The worst part of all of this was having to lie to my family. My excuse for leaving school was to pursue my newfound passion of becoming an actress. Silly, but it was the first thing I could think of. Anyways, my point is I hate having to keep this secret from them. Have any of you guys told your family about your powers?”

I paused trying to carefully arrange my answer. “Judy, our situations are very, very different than yours. Sarah was born, well created, with her powers. She was the first, and last, person created in a secret program that was trying to make the perfect baby. They made it so her body is immune to many common diseases. The problem occurred when they tried to give her the perfect vision. A mistake was made and the program was shut down. Sarah, still a baby, was supposed to be terminated but was taken in by one of the scientists. That scientist told her strictly that she could only live with her until she turned 16 and never return.”

Judy stared at me with wide eyes before I continued.

“I never met my father and I guess you could say I never met my mother. My mom is not, well, human. I was raised by my older brother. I didn’t have my powers when I was younger but I was always destined to get them. Sarah and I met when I was 16 and she was 17. With the help of my brother, we bought this house and have been fighting crime together ever since”
