Pasi came in rushing, abruptly interrupting abhijeet as he was talking to a nervous priyanka, with a disconcerting news.
"sir, deepika bhi gayab hai...." informed pasi, as priyanka was dead-shocked, and abhijeet couldn't have been more outraged.
"kab?" questioned abhijeet immediately in response.
"sir, aaj hi...apne ghar se coaching classes ke liye nikli, par wahan pahaunchi hi nahi...phone bhi ghar pe reh gaya...." pasi answered immediately, as abhijeet turned his glare back to a priyanka, who was just terrified at this point.
"uske maa-baap ko le aayo ho, statement aur FIR lene?" asked abhijeet, as pasi nodded.
"shabash, tum chalo, main aata hoon..." instructed abhijeet, as he looked over at priyanka, her face completely covered in sweat, as her hands covered her mouth, her desperate attempts to try to get some air all went in vain.
"dekho, beta, ab aapko apne dost hi nahi, apni salamati ke liye bhi sochna chahiye hai...yadaash pe zor daalo..." stated abhijeet, before leaving the cell.
***
A mother crying unbearably as she felt like her world had crumbled, at this unknowable loss of her child, a father trying to stay strong, comforting his wife, a story all too real, for a parent when such an agony is thrown at them.
abhijeet, took a long sigh, offering them another glass of water, letting them take their time.
"mr. loda, yeh sab kaise hua?" asked abhijeet, trying to sound as sympathetic as he could.
"pata nahi sir...jasmine ki khabar sunkar toh hum hil hi gaye the...deepika bhi dukhi thi hi uske kaaran, par, pata nahi jab aaj school se aayi...kaafi pareshaan thi...meri wife ne pucha bhi, ki kuch hua hai toh batao....par usne kuch bataya hi nahi...humein laga tv pe aisi-aisi khabre aa rahi hain, woh bhi pareshaan ho rahi hogi jasmine ke liye...phir, apna khaana khaakar, roz ki tarah, apni coaching ke liye nikal gayi...meri wife ne khudh usse choda aaj, humein kaafi chinta ho rahi thi yeh sab news dekh kar...par, jab woh 7 baje tak nahi aayi, humein chinta hone lagi...humne academy bhi phone kiya, unhone toh kaha woh aayi hi nahi...humne kaha nahi phone kiya, kahan nahi pata kiya..par sir, we found nothing...phir thankfully aapke officer khudh hi aa gaye.." narrated loda, as abhijeet looked over to pasi, and then back at mrs.loda.
"school se ghar kaise aayi woh?" asked abhijeet, as mrs.loda, sniffed her nose once, to be able to respond.
"maine hi pick kiya tha, usually driver karta hai, par...." she responded, as abhijeet nodded.
"koi dikha uske aas-paas, jisse woh baat kar rahi ho? ya waise koi.." cross-examined abhijeet, as she shook her head in no.
"aur kuch, joh yaad aa raha ho aaapko, uske gayab hone se pehle ka?" further interrogated abhijeet.
"haan, usse...usse ek phone aaya tha...woh, pata nahi kiska tha..par, usko sunke woh pareshaan bahaut ho gayi...khaana bhi nahi dhang se khaaya..kuch bataya bhi nahi..." noted mrs. loda, as abhijeet only had to give pasi a glance, and he knew exactly what task had to be done next.
"dekhiye, bahaut mushkil samay hai, par aap logon ko himmat se kaam lena padhega, main aapke ghar do constable tehnat kar raha hoon, koi ransom call aayein, yeh dekhne ke liye...agar agle 48 ghante mein aisa koi call nahi aata hai, humare paas ek lead kam ho jayegi, case mein asaani hogi..hum apni puri koshish karenge, yeh mera vadda hai, aur case ki koi bhi information, aap seedha mujhse share karenge aur main aapse, bas yeh news dekhna mat kuch din, hmm?" explained abhijeet as mr and mrs loda nodded in agreement, and abhijeet was left to question his approach to the case completely.
