“Can we talk?” the voice asks again after I refuse to reply.
“About?” I respond, annoyed.
“I think you know what about, love,” he responds, his Irish accent very prominent.
“Sorry, I’m still trying to think of what to say,” I snap.
There’s a short pause, followed by my door opening. Damn, I thought I locked that.
“May I come in?” he asks, sitting at the edge of my bed.
“No?” I reply, more of a question than an hour. What is he playing at?
I shift awkwardly towards my headboard, trying to get some distance from the blonde boy. His big blue eyes look questioningly at me, like we’re internally debating who should say something first.
But really, what can I say? Sorry I’ve been ignoring you? I mean, you only did kiss me unexpectedly. I’ve only known you for a few days!
I could only imagine how he could begin this. So about the other day… Or even Remember that time I cornered you into a kiss?
But how did I feel about it? I mean, sure, yeah, I was surprised at the moment, but now? Did I enjoy it? After the wave of shock rushed over me, did I like kissing Niall?
“Alright, you wanna talk, then go right ahead,” I bitterly say to Niall, trying to get him to say something first.
His eyes scan the hotel room shared by Harry and I, not daring to meet mine. Finally, they rest on a little area of the carpet.
“Well, I had this little speech planned out, but now I guess it’s rubbish, considering I’m currently speechless,” he shrugs.
”Well then, it was nice talking to you, I guess we’re finished here then—“ I start, beginning to get up.
Niall reaches out and grabs my wrist, gently pulling me back down. “No, wait. Please don’t go, Amber.”
Finally our eyes meet, and suddenly, every feeling of anger I felt towards Niall is gone. I see something beneath those crystal blue eyes of his, what it is I don’t know, but it’s something nonetheless.
I shift awkwardly once more, only this time I notice it’s not away from the Irish boy, but slightly towards him.
He, as a response, grabs my hand, and looks into my eyes.
“Listen, Amber, what I did was stupid, and irrational, and unnecessary. It was in total, just a mistake. Very stupid of me. I say, however, that we become friends again. You seem like such a lovely girl, and I think we could really become great friends. I think it’d be a great thing for us. How’s that sound?
I nod, smiling. This is what I think I want. It’d be better for us to stay as friends. Niall and I would have no chance as a couple: he’s a world known superstar, and I’m just some below average girl from Westchester, Pennsylvania.
He kisses my hand and stands up, pulling me up with him.
“I hear the boys in the living room. How about we all go out and do something together? Maybe hit a pub tonight? I think we could all use something to drink.”
I laugh in response. “Well, not me. I’m still seventeen, so that’s a no-go for me. You guys go along, though. I think Lou needs a break, so I’ll get Lux tonight.”
“You sure? I’ll just stay there with you, then, so you’re not alone,” Niall offers.
“Nah, go have fun, I’ll be fine.”
