You know, being a single socialite between tours kind of brought short l mornings and long nights along with the title. What it didn't bring, was rowdy kids running outside your room. So why the hell were there screams of laughter outside that didnt belong to Luke, Michael or Calum?
I stood up from my bed, feeling groggier than ever. When I got the chance to sleep in, I really did. No one would be able to wake me up until I was ready to wake up on my own.
"Luke!" I called out the second I stepped out into the hallway and saw about a dozen rubber toys and play cars. "In here!" He yelled from what sounded like the living room. "What in the world?" I asked as I saw him balance a toddler on his knee. "Emergency babysitting, I found out twenty minutes ago. Did you know Lauren got a boyfriend?"
"Why- Wait, what?" I exclaimed. "Yeah. She posted a picture on her Instagram on a football game or whatever, 'love u to the moon emoji and back sparkly heart emoji and with more flower emojis than what I knew existed."
"Gimme a minute," I mumbled as I power-walked back to my bedroom, grabbing my phone and pressing one of the speed dials. The second I heard someone pick up I started talking. "Mum, does Lauren have a boyfriend?" I asked blankly and I heard her sigh. "I-"
"I'm coming over, bye," I said hanging up and pulling my pajamas down my legs. I grabbed the same shorts I wore a few days ago and put them on as fast as I could. I tied my hair up in a miniature bun and walked over to the window, checking out the weather.
"Great," I muttered as the sky grew darker. Looks like today was going to be a rainy day in Sydney. Which rarely ever happened. I put on a long sleeved t-shirt and got back out, grabbing some fruit in the kitchen. "Where are you going, cave-brother?" Luke asked. "To mums," I said and he rolled his eyes.
"Don't kill Laurens new bae," he said and I scoffed. "She probably doesn't have one anyway," I said and he furrowed his eyebrows. "But-" "He can be gay for all you know!" I exclaimed. "Whatever. Don't kill anyone, I can smell your frustration all the way over here," he said. And boy was he right. I was getting clammy. "Whatever, I'm going now," I said and he waved at me, once again devoting all his attention to the toddler sitting on his lap. "Hey, where's Michael?" I asked as I put on my shoes. "He's with some girl, I think," he said and I raised my eyebrows. "Go Michael," I muttered as I stood up, opening the door. "Bye."
I didn't bother waiting for an answer as I jogged down to the car we all shared, hopping in and turning on the ignition. "I cannot believe," I muttered as I turned on the radio. Nothing was really on, so I was lost in my thoughts all the way to my mums house. She lived quite far away from the city, which was nice to visit once in a while.
The gravel road cracked under the weight of my car and I reveled in the sound. I was back home, and even though my intentions weren't necessarily to pay a nice little visit, it was still good to see them all again.
"Hello," I called as I opened the door behind the door screen. "Hi, Ash," My mum called from the kitchen. Indie, the family dog, jumped at my feet, and even though she was quite a medium sized, chubby dog, I picked her up like a baby. She tried licking my face, but I stretched my neck to the point where she couldn't reach it. I put her on the kitchen counter and started scratching her ear when mum hit my back with a towel. "Stop putting her up there! People eat here, you know," she scolded and grabbed Indie, putting her back down. "Hi," I said, embracing her little form in a long hug. "Where's Lauren?" I asked as we broke apart. "She's in her room," she answered. "Be nice!" She called after me as I walked down the hallway.
I felt so big walking around here now. it wasn't a very large house, but it was always squeaking clean and cozy. I knocked on Lauren's door, waiting for a reply. "Come in," she said and I slowly opened the door, peaking my head in. "Hey," I grinned and she waved from under her mountain of blankets and what-not. "You sick?" I asked and she nodded. "I went to a football match last night because a friend of mine was playing and it started raining," she said and I nodded. "Just friends?" I asked and she nodded, frowning. "Yeah, why?"
"Oh, nothing. I just saw something on Instagram this morning," I said nonchalantly and she sighed, rolling her eyes. "You're so stupid, Ashton," she said. "Why? You're not boyfriend and girlfriend?" I asked, plopping down on the end of her bed. "Leave, now," she said and I squinted my eyes as she looked away. "You can't fool me, Laur. When do we get to meet it?" I asked and she groaned. "He's NOT an it, he is a person!" she said and I smirked. "So he is your boyfriend?" I asked and she rolled her eyes again. "Maybe."
"You're fourteen."
"You're twenty, famous and still single."
"Touchè- Wait, I've actually met someone."
She lifted an eyebrow at me, looking suspicious. "Who?" She asked. "Her name is Hanna," I grinned and relaxed a little on top of her covers. "Is she pretty?" Lauren asked.
"Very. She's smart as well, she works at Vogue. I don't actually know if she's planning on modeling or writing for them," I admitted and she raised her eyebrows. "That pretty?"
"Oh, Yeah."
