ANAYAMy body shivered as soon as I say inside the car beside him. The urge to puke heightened when I remembered his words. I don't know what I've done that he hates me to the point that my death doesn't seem enough for him to punish me.
We sat silently in the car as he drove looking straight to the windshield, his face held no emotion like usual. I was angered by what he had done to me and I wanted answers but I don't have enough guts to initiate any conversation with him.
My mind flashed the moment I was drowning in water and the fear of death that came with it. I've never experienced something so horrific in my life. My skin is still full of goosebumps and each breath reminds me how hard it was to struggle for breath in the water. To watch my death from so close, I will not ever be able to watch any ocean even from the distant.
I looked out of the window and realised that we're almost near to his house. I closed my eyes and turned towards him. With heavy heart, I asked him something even though I knew that he'll never agree. "Can I take a walk from here. I swear to my mother, I won't try to run away. I just need a fresh air. Please let me."
For a second or two, he didn't react in any way as if he didn't hear me. I was about to bend my head low in dejection before he nodded his head in yes.
My eyes went wider in surprise and without wasting any other time, I quickly removed the seat belt when he stopped the car and stepped out of it.
A wave of fresh air hit me and although the sun was shining straight at the head, I don't know why it felt good. Maybe I have fever or maybe because I wore wet clothes, I don't know the reason but strong daylight felt good. I wanted to stay rooted to my place and let the sunlight soak into my skin but instead I took small , reluctant step forward. I so wanted to close my eyes and it took me no rocket science to realise that my body was burning in high fever.
Well, all thanks to my monster of a husband!
I clicked my tongue and shifted my focus to the busy road which was full of vehicles passing by in full speed. It would be impossible for one to cross the road in such situation.
I was about to turn my eyes back when I saw a little kid happily playing with a puppy on another side of the road. A low smile crept on my lips and for a moment, I forgot everything that happened to me earlier. The puppy slipped from his hand and ran across the road to my side. It made me worried for a second but the puppy successfully crossed the road. I shook my head with a soft smile and again looked at the child who was no pouting. And in a swift moment, he ran to come other side of the road but he stuck in the middle. My heart dropped in fear when I saw a car coming to him in full speed. He froze at his place looking here and there. My mouth ran dry in fear and without wasting any single second, I rushed to him. Pushing him aside, I looked back at the car approaching me but I don't know what the hell happened to my senses that I didn't move.
I'll die. I'll die. Fuck, I'll die. I closed my eyes in fear and waited for the car to hit me and tried to remember my mother's smiling face but instead the girl I hit with my car when I was drunk driving flashed. Her lying unconsciously on the road in pool of her own blood- suddenly I felt someone pulling me aside and my body colliding with the familiar sent of a cologne. In reflex, I clutched the shirt of the person who pulled me aside and rested my head on their chest. It wasn't a proper hug but the relief that I'm safe and alive made me want to hug that person.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" I heard a familiar growl which made me open my eyes and as soon as I saw him, I quickly pulled my body away from his.
I looked up at him in confusion as my mind was still clouded with the car hitting me in few seconds. "Huh?"
"If I was a second late, you could've fucking died." He growled.
And that sentence made me aware of the reality.
"That child could've hit by the car. How could I fucking think about myself in that moment?" I screamed in frustration and shifted my attention to the child who was now looking at me with teary eyes.
I kneeled infront of him and wiped his tears. "Don't cross the road from now on unless you're with an adult, okay?"
He nodded his head as a year slipped from his eyes.
I smiled at him. "Promise me that you won't do it."
He nodded, passing me his tiny finger. "I promise." I locked my finger with him and wiped his tears.
"Thankyou for saving him." A woman, most probably his mother came running to me.
She quickly hugged her child and whispered soothing words to me as she cried, ruffling his hair.
"Thankyou so much." She said to me again and again.
I smiled, telling her that it's okay and when she went away with her child, I grinned from ear to ear. I'm glad that I was able to save him.
I was about to walk forward when I hear Aarav clearing his throat to grab my attention. I quickly turned to him realising that I almost forgot that he was with me.
"Thankyou for not letting me die." I said, sarcasm dripping on my tone but I was glad that he saved me but offcourse I'm not going to say that to him. He fucking pushed me from the cliff and-
"Come on, let's go." He said in a low voice, tugging my wrist.
I looked at him and for the very first time I saw adoration in his eyes for me. His face was soft as if he was stopping himself from smiling.
What?
Is this real?
