Okita had asked me to meet her for a debriefing inside one of the Uruk homes.
It was sometime in the evening and my hand was steady on the handle refusing to open it.
Three familiar voices were chatting on the opposite side most likely aware I was just outside, yet neither budged.
I tapped my foot once, twice, even a third. With a long sigh, I pushed my way inside.
My growing discomfort would prove difficult to manage with the two other people in the room, but for Okita's sake, I would keep my personal feelings at bay.
Sitting at the wooden table I found a cup of hot tea already waiting as Merlin, Okita and the human mage addressed me with warm greetings while Fou moved to rest atop my head.
"You finally came in, I was a tad worried when you started lingering outside."
"It's true. Okita's eyes never left the door for a second."
"Merlin!"
Okita grew a bit red in the face while Merlin laughed setting down his cup continually harassing Okita in hopes of lightening the atmosphere.
Neither I nor Gudako seemed to hear what they were saying, our eyes focused on each other; I stared at her with my stoic demeanor wondering what was running through her mind as she looked back with a hopeful expression.
Merlin gave a well-rehearsed cough turning to each of us before speaking.
"I know it's a bit late for a strategy meeting, but this news is a little urgent."
"With some convincing from Siduri King Gilgamesh wants to enlist your aid in fighting a goddess member."
"He's letting us fight with him...does that mean?"
"Yeah, he's recognized Chaldea's help. He was a little impressed how fast you connected with the townspeople."
"That's wonderful news, nice going master!"
Okita leaned forward enthusiastically hugging Gudako across the table diagonally. The announcement of Chaldea's praises cheered the group up as the girls shared a sweet moment.
However, the message stuck out to me. I raised an eye at Merlin suspiciously.
"We're celebrating Chaldea's new mission, I fail to see why I'm here."
"Ah...well. Gil was hoping you'd lend a hand in the battle, Merlin casually replied shrugging his shoulders, something hiding behind his devious smile.
"...You're lying.", Merlin and the others present flinched at the cool harshness of my words.
I leaned back in my chair the two backs leg balancing it perfectly. Calmly I stirred my drink clinking the cup twice with the spoon before continuing.
"There are three reasons I can give you as to why Gilgamesh made no such request."
"One. Gil would never ask another king to fight for his kingdom. Neither Nero nor Artoria has been asked by Gil to quell any beasts attacks. Nero fights to help Gudako and Artoria, well, I'm sure she's a special circumstance."
"As for Leonidas, he trains the troops and gives orders but Ushiwaka is the one leading the charge. If Gil was to ever seek help from other rulers it would be under more dire conditions."
"Two. My clear dislike for humanity. He wouldn't risk having me kill the Chaldean among the chaos. While I do wonder what would make him think id stoop so low his worries aren't completely unwarranted considering I tried to do so during our first meet, though I doubt an encounter like that was a first for you."
